I recently joined Virgin Active Sheffield and had an outstanding experience thanks to Oli and George. From the moment I walked in, they made the whole process smooth, professional, and actually enjoyable.nnBoth Oli and George took the time to understand what I was looking for in a gym, walked me through the facilities, and clearly explained all the membership options without any pressure. Their energy and genuine enthusiasm for helping people get started made a huge difference.nnThey created a really welcoming atmosphere, answered every question I had, and made sure I felt confident and excited about joining. If you’re thinking about signing up at Virgin Active Sheffield, I highly recommend speaking with Oli and George....they truly go above and beyond.
Signed up and cancelled after my first day. Was super busy , I know it’s January but clearly understaffed despite knowing it’s a busy month. Wait time at reception is always long. Classes are always booked up and getting in contact with reception via a call is ridiculous with half hour wait. After that first day I went swimming with the family where the fitting rooms are so outdated and looked unclean to me . I’ve been visiting David Lloyd’s where for similar price point maybe a little more but you get more value for money. This is just a rip off for those who pay full price. And finally how I know I made the right choice was in that first and last visit I left mine and my daughters swimming costume which was 18 days ago I followed the online process of trying to locate this and till this day have never heard from them. Going to call and chase this up. Avoid and just pay for your standard gyms cause you don’t get anything special for the price as you can’t access it anyway.nUpdate - got through to find my £60 Speedo suit along with my daughters has NOT been handed in. Doesn’t surprise me tbh. Avoid this establishment as definitely not worth the money .

The bars, mirrors, and even the windows are permanently matte — not from design choice, but from layers of greasy fingerprints, sweat droplets, and whatever bodily substances previous members generously left behind. It’s less “gym equipment” and more “forensic crime scene.” After each workout, I don’t stretch — I mentally prepare myself for the possibility of contracting a rare skin disease.nnNow, the bar. Oh yes, the bar. Extremely overpriced doesn’t even begin to cover it. You pay premium London-airport prices for food quality that would embarrass a petrol station sandwich. Whatever passion once existed for nutrition has clearly expired — much like the ingredients. If disappointment had a flavour, it would be served here.nnThe spa area? Simply stomach-turning. It’s dirty, outdated, and looks like it hasn’t seen proper maintenance since the early 2000s. The hot tub is cold a bold reinterpretation of the concept, and the general vibe is less “relaxation” and more “public health warning.”nnThe sauna experience deserves its own horror genre. People blow their noses directly onto the floor, walk over seating areas in flip-flops, and generally behave as if basic human decency was an optional upgrade. If you’re looking for a tranquil, hygienic space — look elsewhere. If you enjoy watching society slowly collapse in a wooden box, you’ll feel right at home.nnAnd then there’s the men’s changing room. Truly unforgettable. Men shaving — yes, including intimate areas — in shared spaces like it’s completely normal. I’ve had to fight back actual nausea while getting changed. At times, I wasn’t sure whether I was in a gym or an unsupervised social experiment designed to test human tolerance levels.nnLet’s not forget the irony: this is the most expensive gym in the city, part of a well-known franchise that proudly markets itself as premium. And yet the entire operation feels like a totally unorganised mess. No standards. No consistency. No accountability. Just chaos, filth, and shockingly bad management wrapped in glossy branding.nnIn short: overpriced, unhygienic, outdated, and deeply unpleasant. As soon as my contract ends, I don’t just plan to leave — I plan to erase this place from my memory entirely, like a bad fever dream I once had and never want to relive.nnOne star. And honestly, that’s generous.
Abz is a brilliant PT who has made going to the gym an enjoyable experience - for the first time ever! I’ve gone from feeling self conscious on the gym floor and sticking to swimming, classes, and the machines, to feeling confident and knowledgable with all aspects, in particular around weight training.nHe’s patient, considerate, and a joy to be around.nI couldn’t recommend him more highly.nThe wider team at Virgin Sheffield are always helpful and lovely, too!
I just wanted to give a massive shout out to the kids swim team including Nicky and Sam. They have been so supportive in helping my extremely nervous and sensitive likely neurosparkly daughter manage swim lessons. They have been so understanding and kind, adapting things to help her progress and gain tonnes more confidence. We are super grateful and would highly recommend.
