An organisation shambles, these guys are just lucky there isn't a "real" cafe in the area or they would be out of business. But, given how long they take to serve, you could frankly travel pretty far and still get food and coffee quicker. Told a 30 min wait for scrambled egg on toast. This ended up be an hour. Coffee to 40 minute to come there were only 25 people in the entire cafe when it did come the "Cappuccino" looked like the picture. Staff are friendly enough, but it unfortunately does not make up for terrible wait times and below average food etc. 3 staff, seeming no defined roles for each, and more interest in taking orders than fulfilling them.
Nice little cafe, the steak club sandwich is pretty good! Side salad a little disappointing but i got this for the sandwich more then anything
Great breakfast very well presented.
More than just coffee, it's a Great British café! It has an excellent menu for breakfast, lunch and tea. Nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, GREAT coffee, and...... Try their ginger cake - it's fabulous! Best part, it's a small local coffee shop/café that doesn't charge ridiculous prices!
Ordered an overpriced small breakfast, went to charge my phone for 5 minutes at the plug under my table, and the extremely rude flippant women came over and just said "cant do that in here were not an internet cafe" rudest member of staff ive ever seen, all she had to do was say sorry weve been told to not allow customers to use our electricity, Horrendous the 3p in must of cost them for me to do that, Been avoiding this place for awhile now, as have many others. Overpriced food and poor rude service
What can I say this place has seriously gone down hill, and for what they charge for a standard breakfast they are making a killing! Came in on a sunday, to be greeted by the staff who just stood there as if customers hasn't walked in to be served. The youngest member of staff took our order, while the chef complained about the time we came in, and the fact they stop serving soon. Which to be honest is none of our business they were open for another hour an 15mins from that point. We are paying customers asking for an all day breakfast, an that is the response we get from them! Asked for my egg to be well done, yoke was still runny, cutlery is blunt as can be and you get hardly any beans. Biggest waste of £10 I've spent, due to the terrible atmosphere which has been that way for a while the awful breakfast, and the fact I had to pay £1 just to have whipped cream on a hot chocolate. Used to love this place, will never return.
Just been in The Village Coffee shop for one cup of coffee. Ordered my coffee and paid for it and asked to take a seat and told coffee would be brought over. Well, 17 minutes later and I am still waiting for my drink! Eventually after all this time I asked where my drink was? All I got was blank faces looking back at me! After not really getting an answer why I was still waiting I told the person serving I didn't want to wait any longer and I was going to leave. I was Not even offered my money back. What a disgusting service. I walked over to another coffee shop close by mad hatters and after ordering I was given a coffee within a couple of minutes. I phoned Tilehurst Coffee shop to vent my frustration but to be honest I don't think they care! Only at the end of the telephone conversation did I get offered my money back! I wonder how many other people get treated like this while in this establishment? I suggested they keep the money as this would be the last time I ever enter this coffee shop. For a one minute walk across the road to Mad Hatters coffee shop it is a far better service.
Newly reopened as “the switch” … Only had a double espresso so far, but having tried all double espressos it tilehurst, this is the best on offer in tilehurst
Weak tasteless cappachino, panini so bland and cheese not melted inside. Sausage egg and chips. Chips were hot but half the serving was little broken off bits, Egg not runny yoke, Sausage overcooked and very average . Best thing? Can of coke ! Very disappointing
Went in yesterday at 3pm for the all day breakfast and was told the kitchen was closed. Suprise to me as the cafe actually closes at 5pm. I asked for other food and was blunty told the kitchen was closed again. Very rude and unprofessional. If you arent going to serve your customers 2 hours before you close then at least put up signs in your cafe or online. Waste of time going there. Would not recommend. No wonder the place was empty.
