I took the walk from Margate to Broadstairs. The view was spectacular and plenty of places to stop for a drink. Lots of photo opportunities along the way.
Great trail. I cycled the 34 mile loop including the inland section and it was lovely to see all the gorgeous sandy bays and big ocean fronted houses as well as the picturesque seaside towns and inland villages. Reculver was a highlight. Word of warning: It is not flat - only a small portion: Margate to Reculver is flat then maybe a few other spots. It’s undulating and there are several steep inclines. Anyone saying it’s flat probably hasn’t done the full thing. Two tips re inland - the turn off from Reculver lane to Brook isn’t signed posted - it’s very easy to miss. You need to be aware there also isn’t street name posts there either. Need to plan ahead for this junction and check google maps when you’re there. Then the turn off for the bike path that runs into a field and adjacent to the a299 is also very easy to miss - in the corner of a field. Look out for it shortly after the black windmill right before you hit the dual carriage way. Once you get to St Nicholas in the Wade there are lots of sign posts. Also I asked a male cyclist in lycra at Monckton junction which Viking sign was the right one for ramsgate and rather than say he didn’t know he confidentially told me the wrong one. I’m glad I double checked on my phone as one of the sign posts had been twisted and it would have sent me off quite far off course. Other than that it’s a great trail and one definitely worth doing for the fish and chips at the end. A beautiful way to see Thanet.
Not sure of the location here, but the Viking Coastal Trail I did went from Ramsgate Harbour to Margate Clock Tower. Great little walk along good paths with option to use Promenades and Beach beware of tide as parts of the beach get cut off at high tide. It's about 8 miles and takes approx 3 hours at a reasonable pace. Good views, some interesting nature, features and architecture along the way and plenty of places to stop for food and drink.
A fantastic and, generally, accessible cycle ride. I have cycled from Herne Bay to Margate with my two daughters who were agreed 7 and 9. Beautiful scenery, cafe stops along the way and the conclusion of sitting on the steps to the sea at Margate as the sun sets.
So lovely to cycle by the sea without vehicles to worry about.
Beautiful cycling route with stunning landscapes along the coast. Even the Inland section has some beautiful landscapes. Mostly relatively flat, but there are definitely some uphill sections. As an unprepared novice rider, with unsuitable equipment it was hard going. I had read somewhere online it would take 2-3 hours, which might be the case for a serious rider going fast, but with a 3-gear bicycle it took us closer to 5 hours. Nevertheless the scenery was worth the struggle. Mostly well signed, but I had to refer to the map on the allTrails map a few times. Take a look at my YouTube channel for a video of this ride that will uploaded shortly.
Part of the coastal path through the village of Minster at Christmas. A lovely place.
Not many great cycle's that take you from varied coastal landscapes the country , little bit of lanes and back to where you started in a loop . Many places to cut across and make the trip the length you want. Think the whole route is 34miles. Lots of places to stop and refresh.
Beautiful bay and walk along the bottom of the cliff
Its hard to find where to start the walk, we began at St Marys and walked up towards Minster Abbey and followed a few signs from there, there were a lot of windy road walks so im not sure if i stayed on the trail correctly
