Lovely spot for breakfast. We did not have a reservation but they were able to seat us within 10 minutes on a busy Saturday morning. Lovely decorated tea rooms, very cozy and unpretentious. The menu is varied and they cater well to gluten free. Dietary restrictions: Good options on the menu for those who are on a gluten free diet
I had in mind Urban Angel for quite a bit but it was always fully booked weekends. Lucky us, they managed to get a table without a reservation for us. As any old building in Edinburgh, you go downstairs and find lots and lots of tables for hungry customers surrounded by solid underground walls. It gives you an informal, cosy and welcoming mood, but this time I felt it was a bit abandoned with many refurbishment to be done and areas to be properly cleaned. It did not matter too much to me though but sure it is not for everyone. The menu has all the classic breakfast and brunch courses, juices and hot drinks, but the prices are far high for what you are actually getting. Bread, avocados, chickpeas, eggs, fruit... these are all basic cheap ingredients we all have at home, and a toast with all of them on top should not cost 13 pounds. A breakfast for two should not cost over 30 pounds. Service was great, friendly and cheerful staff. You guys are sweet!
Great food. The brioche french toast was one of the best we ever had, thanks to the soft and fluffy texture of the brioche toast, with the good accompaniment choices of butterscotch sauce and yogurt. The baked eggs were really good as well - just the portion was not big enough for a hungry man. The coffee were fine, not the best in town though. Booking is essential here.
Filling mimosa brunch in a cozy atmosphere at good price. Make sure to reserve a spot in advance as sittings are rather limited. The staff working in here is lovely and super available! I was looking forward their eggs royal because of pic in here, but keep in mind they don’t serve anymore salmon nor avocado because is unsustainable..so, I got them w bacon, which were ok, but in my own taste and experience, eggs were overcooked.
Baked eggs were amazing. By far the best turmeric latte I've had in my life. Staff were lovely and we walked out with some great bookshop recommendations. We managed to get a table as a walk-in but it filled up quickly, so I'd recommend booking beforehand.Food: 5/5
Lovely people, cosy place and good prices! The bread was so delicious, I don’t think I tasted a better bread in Edinburgh. The lady offered us coffee for free cause we were waiting for a table, that was so nice of her! Will visit again soon
I've had an amazing time there this morning. The staff was so welcoming and kind. The food was really good, I tried the eggs Benedict and it was cooked to perfection. Try the latte, it tastes amazing I will definitely come back
We call an hour before to get in the waitlist and the table was ready by the time we got there. Portion size was decent but it varied across plates. Taste and quality was fine, it wasn't out of this world. A little bit too but definitely a decent option for brunch.
Great place with very friendly staff. The food is great and reasonably priced. Loads of glutenfree options. Everything is very fresh and tasteful. Always very busy, so i would recommend you make a reservation
Urban Angel has exactly the type of vibe I am looking for for a breakfast in Edinburgh: beautiful polished rustic interiors and folk music background at least when we came, traditional breakfast and coffees in an ageless menu. We were very happy to come have breakfast here in our last stop in Edinburgh before flying. Will surely recommend and be back for our next visit in this amazing city.
