Bought a trimming router off them, used it for 5 minutes, tried to remove the cutter and the casting broke round the lock button. Sent it back as it was obviously a casting defect, no worries, it happens, only to get a new one with a chewed up collet nut. Upon enquiry, they've accused me of mistreating the tool by over tightening, yet I only used the lock button and supplied spanner, said 'the collet nut hadn't failed so that doesn't need replacing' even though they've chewed it up and damaged it I couldn't remove the cutter because the lock button broke, they did and left gouges all over it and basically said that it's beyond belief that I could have broken it by hand, therefore calling me a liar. Good tools until you need to claim on the 3 year warranty, that ain't worth the paper it's written on. Lost all faith in them, will not buy another product, which is a shame because I really liked the look of their digital router lifts, would probably have spent 3-5k with them if it wasn't for this. First two pics are the one that broke, the last two are the state the 'new' one arrived in.
I ordered wetstone grinder and a bowl gouge from Rutlands. The gouge arrived with a chip out of the shaft and the grinders cross bar was very hard to move in and out. The gouge jig allowed the gouge move even when it was tightened up. Basically it was just a bolt that sat in the gouge groove, if the bolt had have been rounded it would have sat secure. Also the wheel slowed down dramatically when you put any pressure on it. I returned the order and Rutlands only made a partial refunded! I did email the company asking for the rest to be refunded which they did as soon as they received the email. Although quality was poor the customer service was fast and responsive.
My Christmas present bowl gouge arrived with a loose handle. Customer service replied immediately offering a replacement or refund and sorted the issue there and then. The gouge is great by the way, very sharp and well-balanced. I'll be back for more....
I bought a Bandsaw for from Rutlands. After unboxing and setting up I struggled to get the saw to cut straight. After watching many videos, I couldn't adjust the saw to work correctly. I contacted their customer service department to help, and they sent me a few directions over email to no avail. I sent them pictures and requested a videocall with someone in their technical department or to talk to someone directly over the phone. I was told They don’t have the facility to speak to somoene or help over video. This business has no technical or customer service helpline. In fact, I cannot find a telephone number for them at all. I eventually gave up and chose to send back the item at a cost of nearly £30 to me. As I run a small workshop, I chose to buy another branded saw as I lost trust in the Rutlands saw. This saw was easy to set up, had a much better blade and cut smoothly from the outset. A few days later, they sent me some pictures stating the saw works perfectly. I tried to fix again to no avail. Let’s just summarise here, I have a saw they are claiming works correctly, however I cannot get the same result. Where am I left? They won't help or support. I have expensive scrap metal. Given I couldn't get accurate results and they wouldn't accept the return I had no choice but to recycle the saw as my conscious would not allow me to sell it on. So I'm down an extraordinary length of time and just shy of £270 for what is a poor piece of metal tthat'sonly good for the tip. Overall, the product was poor quality. But the real issue is customer service, it doesn't exist. You cannot speak to them or get any practical technical help. Try and find a telephone number for Rutlands? This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced. They simply don't care. Dreadful bandsaw, awful customer service, woeful technical support & overall the worst tool company I’ve dealt with. Moving forward I will only purchase power tools from a company that provides good customer & technical support. For example I had a problem with my dewalt table saw and took it to thier local service shop, who accertained the problem quickly and repaired it without charge. That's helping a customer. I will never buy from Rutlands again.
My experience with this company has been extremely pleasant. I sent a request about lathe chuck sizes and how to identify which size I required and the response was very quick and very detailed - even providing a picture of how to take the measurements. Since then I have corresponded with them frequently and each time receiving a very quick reply ie. 5mins or so. In the end I decided to try an adapter as it would be smaller to return if it didn't fit. Sadly this proved the case but there was absolutely no sense of animosity that it wasn't the correct size and they instantly provided me with the return address and assurance that as soon as they receive the item a full refund will be issued. Excellent customer service, polite and as helpful as they possibly could. I thoroughly recommend dealing with this company and anyone unsure should be reassured they have nothing to worry about and if you have any queries they are as pleasant as can be.
I regularly by tools and machinery from Rutlands but on this occasion there was a fault with the purchase planer thicknesser. The fence was misshaped but they sent a replacement without any quibble and it arrived within 24 hours. Superb service all round. Thanks!
I bought a pair of flooring cramps from Rutlands. This was a last minute order, as usual, so didn't get a chance to check them until I was about to start my job. They looked ok on the outside but when you tightened them the internal gearing sounded dreadful, really cheap rubbish. I contacted Rutlands who told me they were great and the noise I was hearing was the gears. Yeah, I know it was the gears, they were just very nasty gears. They wouldn't accept them back as faulty, they weren't the slightest bit interested in finding out what the problem was, and I've now had to use them, so I'm stuck with the crummy things. I'm going to open them up at the weekend to see what kind of mess is inside the gearbox, I'm expecting some crude machining and loose metal filings. That's the last purchase I make from Rutlands. Note to self: If a company doesn't have a phone number it probably means the customer service is going to be sub-standard.
I have dealt with this company for years and had no issues. However I recently bought an electric stapler nailer from them. It does not work properly. I therefore contacted customer service explaining the problem and requesting either a replacement or a refund. Their first response was that I could not be using it properly and suggesting I tried again. I then reiterated my wishes. Their reply was too ask for a video showing me using it to prove that it did not work properly. I have never had this type of response before from any company. Needless to say I will never deal with this company again. Do not expect customer service to actually provide a service.
Have ordered a few things now via the Internet. Excellent quality of goods & fairly priced. Delivery is rapid, ordered goods around 3pm & received them the next lunchtime
I've used Rutlands a couple of times with no issues, but recently ordered a tool stand which arrived undamaged but sadly had one of the plastic feet missing. I emailed to ask if there was any chance they could send me one out, and Matt at Rutlands replied quite quickly to let me know he'd get one out that afternoon. Now bear in mind this was a Friday afternoon, and having dealt with companies before that either don't reply at all on Fridays, or make promises that never happen until Mondays, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the postie arrived Saturday with a small parcel containing a spare foot, hows that for excellent service!!
