What a great university. Like a little village of student accommodation and teaching and learning facilities. Nice grounds, and a variety of new and old buildings.
Just had 2 days at the STEM Centre on a course. Excellent facilities, friendly staff and amazing food. The course was really useful with lots of take away ideas.
This is a disgusting university. Their attitude toward students is repulsive - refusing reasonable adjustments for those with learning disabilities, and refusing to communicate with students about genuine concerns. I've heard and experienced so many worrying accounts, particularly from the computer science msc. There are some really vile staff members at this university, both behind the scenes and communicating to students. Please please your student loan is better spent elsewhere. I don't think there's a redeemable cell in the staff at this uni who think it's acceptable to treat disabled students, and just any student in general, with such contempt.
One of the best universities in UK to study
I'm student of the MSc CS, the course has material full of errors, the quality and level of service from the tutors can't be worse. The students are trying to help themselves because tutors reply is terrible slow and wrong, not sure if they actually know of the topic.
The online masters in computer science with cyber security is not for beginners even though the university advertise it as anyone can partake and learn. This masters has been awfully a hard experience. The first module algorithms and data structures is extremely hard and difficult, if you struggle to do that I would advise do not go on. The rest of the course is extremely intense and requires an individual who has good coding skills and maths skills to be able to understand. Furthermore, the most appalling part is that no matter how much you study and work hard on your assignments the markers will give you an awful mark despite you doing exactly what’s on the task sheet. I did one exam where the exam was completely different to what we was taught . York are doing nothing about this. I want to add that I work in the field of cyber security and one assignment was heavily based upon the security aspect of a company. I went above and beyond for this assignment and showed peers at my company who have years of experience. I added policies and went above and beyond I repeat- well the mark I got for this work was a pass! I was so shocked! This was the breaking point for me and I don't want to be apart of this masters however, I have a few modules left and trying to get through it. It seems that there is a theme off many students experiencing this same issue, many students have tried their best and followed instructions through but the grade doesn't satisfy their expectations. Additionally, the masters is very full on although it's part time, there's a lot of reading and activities to do which make it very difficult to always be on top of things especially if you're working or have other commitments. Furthermore, the teachers are very unhelpful , if you ask them for any kind of guidance they are so ambiguous in their responses and will copy and paste the task assignment wording if you ask for specific help to do with the assignment. I wouldn't recommend anyone to do their online masters in computer science, i can't speak for the university as a whole but the online computer science courses are extremely awful due to the lack of support and intensity. You need to come from a technical mathematical background don't let them fool you. If you do go through with this masters, you're truly awesome and will be able to take on any BS that may come your way. The content of the topics are interesting but the university and teachers are awful.
Beautiful campus with a gorgeous lake and parks
I really liked this theme park! The rides never had queues, "Central Hall" is a great bunjee jumping bit. My only fault is that I can be very self centred. My wife thinks so. She took the house in the divorce. I took it back. By suing her. She didn't sign the prenup. I win Jane. I win.
The campus itself is huge, you´ll need a few weeks to know where to go, but the information system is very well organized, and there are allways some nice People around you to ask for advice if needed. What surprised me a bit was the overall condition of the Buildings and Facilitys on the Campus itself, they seem a little bit Run down in my opinion and could use a little bit of Renovation here and there, but the overall impression was good, and the City of York provides a lot of nice places to go if you dont study : so, yes i can recommend it for shure.
Huge place with a lot of green and lake. Many bridges and nice architecture buildings. Easily to get lost. The photos are in west side. If you want to move in the university from west to east for example the bus is free. The most useful buses are 66 and 66a. From the center of york is half n hour on foot and 10 minutes by bus. The route is so nice that you will prefer the first option. the Also has cafe and restaurants in each college. So that means that there are plenty of cafes. Big library, too buty students can go in.
