I graduated from Portsmouth University, and my honest review is that this University doesn't care about the students or their learning! I struggled quite a bit with no support or help from the teachers, I understand our research and theory, learning is all made by us but there are some things you still need to understand better and need support on and yet you don't get that, this is my experiences and my opinions and how I felt altogether as a whole. There are lucking in the teaching environment which needs improving, support are not present when needed and struggles, stress and worries are not addressed, I felt lost half of the times so it was a horrible experience for me and I wish no one goes through like me.
i am not a student of university but i am a family member of a graduate ‍. I am disappointed that some families drove long distance to support the graduated students and we do understand that 3pm was start although being two minutes before 3 we were not allowed in .. the parents of graduating student were left very disappointed and upset same as the student- this was far too strict and mean and instead of celebrating and being happy nobody clapped for the student as nobody was there to support him- university of Portsmouth taking enormous money and fees for the courses and crazy fees for the outfit, guest tickets , fees for pictures for the special day it is very mean and rude from the your part to take this away from so many over 1min lateness !! the staff at the door security was absolutely out of manners also ! this has to be fixed ! I went to graduation in London two different universities and this never happened to the families- I have seen at your university two students who came few minutes before three even these were not let in for their own graduation!! really bad
I graduated from Portsmouth University with a First. The university was fine, do not regret going. However it seemed to me the universities main objective is profit. An example: since I have dyslexia, they told me about, extra computer programs I would need, extra lessons to learn the software, even money I need for printer ink. None of which I received. They say how much do you want us to apply for ink, I say £20 they reply with we'll apply for £150. I imagine they applied for hundreds, none of benefits I ever received. Also you won't get any respect for being a paying student. For example university cancelled my annual parking permit, through an email I didn't see ,such that I got a parking ticket on the last day of my course, and now I have to attend court to defend myself over a now £170 fine when I've paid them 10's thousands.
I am a graduate preparing to take the ACA exam. I requested my official transcript from my school to be sent to the ACA on May 8th. It's now June 21st and I haven't received any information. I'm worried I might miss this year's exam. The school's administration is really speechless .
I can only really comment on the natural sciences department which has some of the nicest, most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met and although the labs are old, they are still definitely up to scratch for modern research! Communal areas such as the SU and library are also pretty great. But the university definitely lacks in terms of IT systems, course structure like how well they explain certain aspects of the course and the accommodation. All I’ll say about the latter is this. Avoid it. I stayed in Harry Law hall and it’s reminiscent of the 9th circle of Hell.
Overall, I had a positive university experience. The campus was beautiful and well-kept, creating a peaceful and conducive environment for studying. The faculty members were knowledgeable and approachable, always eager to help students and offer guidance.
Portsmouth is very good we're glad we're love you Portsmouth I like everything the country of Portsmouth is Down is not we're are any people that's good! That's the way where are glad to see you! Hope we're had a nice day!
It is Absolutely waste of money and time. Courses are poorly structured and teachers are simply not knowledgeable enough on their subjects. Avoid this place at all cost.
I am currently a first-year student and despite reading bad reviews I highly recommend studying here. Teaching staff is great and very supportive, they do their best to make you feel at ease. Portsmouth is a vibrant seaside town with its pros and cons. All in all, I would recommend studying here.
Shop about before making any decisions.. Poorly organised compartmentalised departments that don't talk to each other, show little interest in students, take your money and offer little. As an older student with an already established career, you can spot just how poorly ran the "business" is. It's possible that perhaps the younger students may just accept this as normal as they don't know any better. As an remote learning , part time student already in full time employment , the courses were advertised as a flexible means of study. They are not. The online course I am on was aimed at established professionals that want to gain a degree in a flexible manner alongside their employment. Once enrolled the dynamic soon shifts to you are a student, and your employment should not be your priority. This is a direct result of the compartments not talking with each other, and the university not having an operational strategy to operate a remote learning system. They have applied the rigid structure already in place to what should have had more flexibility as marketed. In short, they have seen a potential market with the advancement of remote access and communication technology, taken money from people with the promise of a flexible means of study, and not thought about how it will be delivered; the slapped on the traditional university/student management approach is all they know. There is also limited access to resources with most of the university library content not being available online. In fact there is more value in a subscription to Scribd for £10.99 per month than the university's library online content - a service I have had to use for assignments. Following on with online access, as a part-time student with a full time employment priority, any spare time you get must be spent on your studies. Something not a problem as it is usually enjoyable to pursue continued professional development. However, on this occasion, the issue you'll face is when you do get an opportunity to spend time on your studies, you can't get access to the portal/system due to IT difficulties. As it stands, I am 3 weeks and still waiting on a resolution to not being able to access the university portals, due to an outdated security system in place and access is designed to be granted whilst on the campus network. Something the IT department will deny, but unofficially the staff will tell you over the phone. As it stands I am committed to persevere through this dreadful experience to come out on the other side with something more than a very expensive headache. I would give this 1 star if not for some of the friendly advisors I have dealt with. If you're considering this university, learn to spot fake reviews and consider your options until you are certain there has been a vast improvement. As it stands, they are not up to scratch, and won't listen to any complaints or feedback...
