The University is providing excellent education. I am very happy with the teaching staffs in Essex Business School in Southend-on-Sea campus. The campus is vibrant and I enjoy city campus life here. The quality of the education is outstanding except unavailability of some resources as we need them. I would love to come here again n again.

The university made a very unfair decision by kicking me off my course with just 8 months left to go before qualifying as a mental health nurse. My first year was restarted when it need not have been due to a prejudiced occupational health doctor's opinion. This doctor saw me for literally 2 minutes, read over my mental health history and diagnosis and decided that I had " a mental impairment!". This judgement was made on my history not the here and now. As a result of this unfair judgement, I lost a year here straight away when I needn't have. I was in my final year of my course but was not given the opportunity to make up 40 placement hours to enable me to meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) within the stipulated 5 year period. I had already proven my ability to make up hours earlier that year but was told by my tutor not to take all of my holiday to make up time, however, my tutor did not warn me about the 40 hours owed and then totally unexpectedly I received an email asking me to attend a fitness to practice committee meeting!! I owed a mere 40 hours with two placements remaining so these hours could quite easily have been made up in time. I felt that the university prejudged me due to my mental health diagnosis because other students were allowed to make up placement time and some of them even had time waived at the end of their courses!!! Absolutely disgusting treatment. A real shame. I worked so hard despite my illness and difficulties and deserved to complete my degree and qualify as a mental health nurse. I did not receive any extra support for my mental health needs until my second year despite the fact that I was ill at the end of my first year. I was also not made aware of the additional support available (i.e. disability student allowance, mental health disability mentor) to me until my second year by which point it was too late. I believe that I would never have become ill at the end of my first year if I had been made aware of and given the appropriate support. Please do not start your nurse training here if you have a mental health condition/ disability because you will not be supported. The university always banged on about the need to "preserve their reputation" but if they treated all of their students fairly then they would have no need to worry about their reputation would they? I wish I had gone to Anglia Ruskin University now- at least they treat their students fairly.
