So I’m an international student and I don’t really understand how the NHS in the UK operate, I usually just go to private hospitals. However an emergency is an emergency. I fainted and fell unconscious twice on the same day and I cut my leg in the process. I was able to be escorted to the UMC in an attempt to be checked. Upon getting there, the receptionist told me to “book an appointment” for the next day. What does that mean? I only realised that UMC doesn’t allow walk in appointments which is strange for a “university medical centre” However I looked at their website before showing up and it stated that “going unconscious” was considered an emergency but it wasn’t taken for that when I got there. The receptionist also told me to clean my cut leg myself when “I get home”. Best believe that I will never set foot in there ever again unless I am forced to. If it is an emergency please dial 999

It does it's job. Friendly staff. However, always running late (ie you book an appointment at 15:30 and you get called in at 16:00). I have come form abroad and I'm used to private/semiprivate healthcare so maybe this is normal for NHS. Another problem: They don't have any drugs. I would low key expect antibiotics like ampicillin to be on hand in a place like this. And the most infamous issue: This place is is more remote than Pluto. Seriously... it's a mile away from the University Proper.

I would not recommend this surgery. The receptionists were very judgemental and rude. I visited the surgery shortly after moving to Bath after I had injured my knee. The receptionist argued that I didn't need an urgent appointment because I had been able to walk to the surgery! I eventually had to be seen by a consultant and had an MRI which showed that my knee was fractured. The doctor I saw, in contrast to the receptionist, was caring and helpful. It's a shame that the non-medical staff are so unhelpful, as it really lets down the surgery overall. They really should not be making comments like this as they are not medically trained. I have now moved to a different surgery in Bath because of this encounter, the Widcombe Surgery, which I would wholeheartedly reccommend (see my other review).
