***Ridiculous! Beware!!! They are theives!!! **Went through the tunnel for the first time on our way to Edinburgh for a 2 day holiday. Thought the tunnel should have toll booths but didn't see any booths or payment warnings or information on how to pay. Then a week later we get a 60 pound fine through the post saying we went through the tunnel without paying!! We didn't know we had to pay. ... then they say we should appeal with photographic evidence. How do you provide evidence? What do you provide evidence of?
I Went to Edinburgh and home both ways no booth, nothing telling me where to pay ! Now I have received a fine for £60, absolutely ridiculous system. Robbing people without them knowing how to pay. How can they get away with this. You make this a sad country to be in.nDisgraceful
Payment for using Tyne Tunnel there was nowhere to pay and I will get misspayment fm s/shields to N.shields, I will get fine for not paying Ripoff Britain coming back i had to go the longer way to Newcastle it is not easy to follow road signs when driving
Passed this as a tourist in a rental car, set 2 navigation systems to avoid toll roads but got led through anyways. Apparently missed the one sign that indicated that you have to pay tolls online here. This is quite a dirty business practice in my opinion, of course I would have paid it if I had known, but there is not even a reminder at the exit.
We hired a car from York to Edinburgh because our train was massively delayed and ultimately canceled in York on the first day of our trip to the UK. The toll signage approaching the tunnel doesn't indicate how insanely strict the deadline to pay the toll is, and the fine—and fee added on by the car hire company—is absurd. Avoid this route at all costs, as its ridiculous payment rules nearly doubled the cost of our one-way car hire.
