About

Story

Set on a traditional working Welsh hill farm, this family run Caravan and Campsite lies on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park nestled in between the Moel Eilio and Mynydd Mawr (Elephant) Mountains in North Wales.

This 200 acre sheep farm has been in the Griffith family for over 300 years. There are many animals on the farm including Shetland ponies, donkeys, lamas, pigs, chickens, ducks and turkeys. If you visit us in the spring, you can see some of our new born lambs.

Tyn-yr-Onnen is the perfect spot for those who want to experience the outdoors, go off of the beaten track and enjoy breath taking scenery.

The campsite offers sheltered pitches, with hook-ups if needed, recently refurbished toilet blocks with free hot showers, baby changing facilities, disabled shower rooms and a utility room.

There is a play area for children and a television room with table tennis and a pool table. There is plenty of space for BBQs; we even allow camp fires in one of our camping fields; after all we think that camp fires are an essential part of camping. If you are interested in Wild Camping then drop us a line.

Tyn-yr-Onnen also has self-catered accommodation, with 3 lodges and a modern static caravan for hire, so you can enjoy this quiet picturesque location with some added luxury.

From the farm there are 100’s of acres of heath land on your doorstep to explore, with many walks for beginners or the most adventurous can walk to the summit of Snowdon from the Farm, we will be happy to recommend some of our favourites.

It’s not all about mountains and walking, there are castles to explore in Caernafon, Bangor, Beaumaris and Harlech, beautiful beaches of the Llyn Peninsular and Anglesey. Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon, has the famous train to the summit, Electric Mountain, Llanberis Slate museum, Lakes, Rope Adventures, Diving, and outdoor adventures from kayaking to coast steering.

There is truly something for everyone.

A lovely, quiet, exceptionally clean site. The owners and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. It is an ideal place to sit and relax. It is a working farm with animals. There are walks from the site where you will find further animals. You can purchase delicious, fresh welsh meat from the site shop. We stayed in the chalet which was very clean and very well laid out. We would definitely recommend Ty'n yr Onnen.

Lodge we stayed in was lovely except for dog hairs. Only downside was having to pay to play pool. Should be free really especially when cues are broke. 50p a game is excessive

Small, very friendly and the staff go the extra mile to make your stay a fantastic family experience! Children loved the animals and little park and were allowed to feed the lambs which was an amazing experience for them. And the best part, you are allowed fires! Everything you need is available on the site for the fire including the fire grate and logs. Will definitely stay again!

A great little weekend break, very quiet with great facilities and clean. Beautiful scenery with many walks close by. Clive is very helpful and freindly, and only 10 min drive from Caenarfon. Lovely to stay on a working farm and see the animals. If you are staying on the top feild, be sure to take some carrots for the donkeys. We had the pod in the top feild with a play area, games room (table tennis, pool and tv) very clean toilet and shower block and well equiped utilty room (3 sinks, washing machine and drier and microwave and 2 fridge freezers). The weather was rotten while we were there but we still enjoyed the stay and will be staying there again in the spring during lambing season. Thankyou Tyn Yr Onnen farm for a great stay.

Must have come when the quiet people decided to stay away. For 2 nights in a row we have had to put up with children running around after 10 pm shouting and screaming, and adjacent campers partying with music going till 11pm . Great shame as the showers and washrooms are clean. Only animals to see currently are donkeys in a field.
