Twycross Zoo

About

Come to Twycross Zoo and bring out the animal in you!

Story

Twycross Zoo is renowned as a specialist primate zoo and has a wide variety of monkeys and apes including the UK's only group of bonobos.

We have breeding groups of many endangered primate species so we often have babies and toddlers playing around in our orang utan and bonobo groups, and in many of our monkey groups.

Set in more than 80-acres, we have around 650 animals of almost 150 species to see, including many endangered animals and native species in the Zoo's Nature Reserve.

You can walk with our ring-tailed lemurs in their new walk-through enclosure; see our giant tortoises sunbathing in their new grass area and watch our penguins take their daily walk.

Our keepers present regular talks and feeds where you can learn a bit more about some of our animals such as the chimpanzees, penguins and coatis.

We are open 364 days a year from 10.00am (we only close Christmas Day)

The Zoo is located only four-miles from junction 11 of the M42/A42 (which links the M1 and M6) making it readily accessible from anywhere in central England.

We offer free parking.

A Fun Day Out! I recently had the opportunity to visit Twycross Zoo on a works trip, and I'm glad I decided to stay over and explore this hidden gem. Located in a convenient spot, the zoo offers ample parking, making it easily accessible for visitors. Upon entering, I was pleased to find the admission price to be reasonable, at £26.00 per person. As I wandered through the zoo, I was impressed by the quality of the enclosures and cages, which seemed to cater well to both small children and adults alike. While Twycross Zoo may not be the largest zoo I've visited, the attention to detail in each exhibit was evident. The zoo's layout was easy to navigate, and I appreciated the variety of animals on display. From primates to big cats, and even a few surprises in between, there was something to fascinate every visitor. I particularly enjoyed the primate enclosures, which offered a unique perspective on these intelligent creatures. My only criticism was the weather on the day of my visit, which was overcast and cool. While the zoo's infrastructure is well-maintained, a sunny day would have elevated my experience and allowed me to fully appreciate the outdoor areas. Despite the weather, I was pleasantly surprised by Twycross Zoo and would definitely recommend it to others. In fact, I plan to return on a sunnier day to experience the zoo in all its glory. If you're in the area, Twycross Zoo is a great option for a fun and educational day out with family or friends.
This is a great family day out. Would highly recommend it. We were parked up.at 9.30 but our tickets weren't valid until 10am but by the time we had sorted ourselves out and got a coffee it was time to go in. We didn't queue as we had prebooked and we were in. I'd recommend feeding the birds early and seeing the chimpanzees early as that gets really busy. There is so much else to do including a wet area for kids who will need a change a clothes. Have fun.
Had a great day, highlights were the gibbons and the butterfly farm. Gruffalo trail was pretty good. Only two things that let it down for us - toilets were not always clean and the ones near the water park had a huge wait. It was also very busy so we went to the back of the zoo first early on. Also good that we can come back for as many visits within the year for free!
Lovely place to go. We took 2 of our grand children there for a Birthday treat, they were 4 and had a really nice time. We saw all the animals except the Tiger. There was as indoor Butterfly area where they fly all around you. There was a Gruffalo trail on, which they really loved, buttons to press for them to interact. There was also a Lego event on, where lots of animals had been made out of Lego, life size too. Took a picnic. There was a water park area, so children could play when the weather is nice.
Great zoo for young children and families. Lots of different monkeys but also giraffes, tigers, penguins, birds, and some huge tortoise. Great water park for the little ones. Lots of picnic space and benches around. The fish & chip restaurant was good value, but only one coffee/ice cream shop open when we went in late June, which was surprising, but staff said more open at the weekend. Return tickets are valid for 12 months, which is great value, so will be visiting again. Easy to book online.
Really liked this Zoo it has a lot of space and a good mix of animals primarily primates, and fun things for the kids, the Gruffalo trail was interactive and the kids loved collecting the stamps, they had a really good splash pool and two playgrounds. The facilities were good across the park with lots of toilets and places to eat, nowhere to fill water bottles though not that I found
Oh my, it was crowded! We went there at 11 a.m., and it was the biggest mistake. Firstly, it was difficult to find a parking space. We had to walk about 5-7 minutes from our parking spot to the entrance. Secondly, there were so many people that you could barely get close to the screens to see the animals. Thirdly, our first round through the zoo was almost useless, as most enclosures were empty, the staff was cleaning the cages, and we could barely see any animals. However, after 1 p.m., the situation improved. There were fewer people, and the animals were out. We visited the Gruffalo Discovery Land, where the kids collected stamps, and at the end of the walk, they received certificates. Overall, we enjoyed visiting Twycross Zoo. My recommendations are to control the number of visitors and clean the cages before opening time.
Enjoyed my visit a few weeks ago. It was good to use my Chester Zoo membership to enter. The first day of visits to two different zoos. Enjoyed seeing the great breadth of monkeys and apes.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
I recently visited Twycross Zoo with my family, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day out. Located in a beautiful setting, the zoo is home to an impressive variety of animals, particularly primates, which the zoo is renowned for. The well-maintained enclosures and the zoo's commitment to conservation and education really stood out during our visit. One of the highlights was the extensive collection of monkeys and apes, from the tiny tamarins to the majestic gorillas. It’s clear that Twycross Zoo takes great care in providing environments that are both engaging for the animals and informative for visitors. The informative signage and interactive displays added to the experience, giving us a deeper understanding of the species we were observing. The newer exhibits, such as the Giraffe Savannah and the Amur Leopard habitat, are fantastic and show the zoo’s ongoing efforts to improve and expand. The layout of the zoo is easy to navigate, with plenty of spots to stop for a break, including picnic areas and cafes. The soft play area and playgrounds were a big hit with the kids, providing them with a fun way to burn off some energy between animal exhibits. The only downside to our visit was that some of the older enclosures felt a bit dated and could benefit from updates similar to the newer parts of the zoo. Additionally, while the food options were decent, they were somewhat limited, especially for those with dietary restrictions. That being said, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to answer questions and share insights about the animals. The zoo’s dedication to conservation is admirable, and it’s great to know that our visit contributes to these efforts. Overall, Twycross Zoo is a wonderful place for a family day out, offering a great mix of education, fun, and the chance to see some amazing animals up close. We left with some lovely memories and a better appreciation for the incredible work that goes into running such a facility. We’ll definitely be back to see how the zoo continues to evolve!
We love visiting here. We got annual passes from a previous visit and returned for the first time today. Great day out with my child. The animals are so well looked after and the staff so kind and knowledgeable. We asked two lovely keepers about the coats on the penguins and they happily explained fur loss putting our minds at ease. The lady in the gift shop was not only helpful with the purchases we made and checking our Top Trumps answers but when we got stuck in the car park as cars had been parked too close to allow us out, she got us fast assistance from two lovely gentlemen who got us out an alternative way very quickly. Cannot recommend this place enough for a day out but the staff really make it worthwhile. We are so impressed we are going to be moving to VIP passes in the near future. Keep up the good work!
