Lovely cafe. Traditional English meals very stodgy but really good. They made a lovely little desert with custard I remember I had the ratatouille experience where it reminded me of a childhood memory. The toffee syrup really took me back in time.
I had a meal at Tudor Rose after viewing the castle. I'm vegetarian, so only two options: roast minus meat, or veggie burger. My friend went for beef roast. Both meals were just very poor quality, my burger came in a horrible fast-food bun with chips, and not even a side salad. I ordered one separate, that consisted of few leaves of iceberg lettuce, 2 slices of tomato and cucumber, slice of beetroot and coleslaw. The burger was dry soy cheap sort. Roast was overcooked, and soaked in fat. The only good thing I can say about the place is really friendly and informative waiting staff. Overall negative food experience, not recommended to anyone.
Well where to start? the was a big group of us 11 to be exact, we booked for 10 and had been trying to call all day to add one extra on, they hadn't picked the phone up but were able to accommodate when we got there, we were seated only people in the restaurant this is where the trouble started it was a family meal with 7 adults not including myself and 3 teenagers of 17, the other adults ordered there drinks varying from coke, beer and vodka and soda, i ask for a vodka and coke, she said sorry going to need to id u, im fine with this even though my mother was there and objected, i showed her 3 forms of id, passport, drivers licence, and young persons rail card, she said oh no i dont believe you are of legal age...... june 1994...... that makes me almost 19, she said but i will allow you to have wine £1 more expensive than the drink i ask for........ i reluctantly agree because i cant be bothered to argue, we then wait 25 minutes for our drinks, she serves them then 5 minutes later comes to take our orders, we order and then end up waiting a hour and 10 minutes for food, no offers for drink refils, now i could understand if the place was busy! BUT we were the only people in the restaurant, for the most part the food was adequate, the veggie option i had was lovely, we had 4 people with "seeded" gunned burgers, 1 came seeded the others weren't, i know that isnt anything big but why not send all out with none? we also had 3 people with fish and chips, the chips were lovely, but the fish full of bones, after this we went for puddings, this took a further hour, and after we had ordered we were given the bill and told as you have taken so long we are cashing up..... EXCUSE ME! when the puddings come they seem to be hit and miss, a crumble that is half hot as a volcano and the other cold as ice, a "dark chocolate soup" that is weak coco flavoured custard £7 for a thin layer and a marshmallow, all in all a £300 meal with rubbish service rude staff and quite annoying tactics, sorry dont think you of legal age have a alcoholic drink that is more expensive....... i wouldn't recommend going there to be honest....... i had heard lovely things but when i went nope!
New ownership have done wonders with this place, now called Motte and Bailey. My family and i ate there on one of the tapas nights and the food was outstanding and reasonably priced. Highly recommend
Give this place a break - new owner, new vibrancy. Breakfast brilliant. We are going to try Friday night tapas next. This place is really worth a visit!
Outstanding service, excellent fresh food, really friendly. Would definitely recommend. Here in Arundel for two days and going back for lunch tomorrow!
