What a place, what an experience. This is a must place to visit. From a friendly welcome on entry to leaving four hours later. The place is laid out for a very relaxing stroll around. You can get close to the animals, all of which seem to be in very suitable accommodation, each with enough information that educates you perfectly. There's more than enough space for your little ones too. With climbing frames etc. We hope to come back.
Wonderful place! Much bigger than expected and a big variety of animals, which were all very easily spotted/visible in their enclosures. Great keeper talks throughout the day too. Nice cafe hot dogs, chips, etc with an indoor play area and big outdoor playground too. Loved the wandering peacocks, particularly the white one! A perfect day trip for all the family and really reasonably priced too.
We saw it when we had driven past the day before and were intrigued by the building. We got there just as it opened and we were the only people there for a good 30 minutes. We listened to a couple of the talks which were really interesting and our son spent some time playing in the park area. The cafe was also nice with an indoor play area. For the time we spent there it seemed like really good value for money especially when you compare it to some of the larger more commercial zoos/safari parks in the UK.
This is a great wildlife park. They are really geared up for younger children. Indoor play area for bad weather. The outdoor pirate ships are amazing. The animals are great and fun to watch. Great cafe and gift shop.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We visited on a hot mid July day just before the schools break up so it was relatively quiet. Not all the animals on the brochure were there but I expect they go to other zoos and of course this place suffered during that awful lockdown. The creatures they did have were beautifully looked after and the whole place was immaculate. My granddaughter particularly like the spiders, my only negative comments would be that it isn't really suitable for wheelchair users and there is no play equipment for small children to enjoy.
We went here as a last minute decision as the weather was a bit off and its great! We'd definitely go back when we're back in the area. There were lots of varied animals and we got to see lots as well they weren't all sleeping or hiding miles out of sight!. The play areas for kids are also fantastic! I don't think I've been anywhere with anything quite so good. My 3 year old had a fantastic time, but it would easily entertain much older kids. It was great to have lots of indoor options as well. My only comment would be there weren't many healthier options on the menu, it was mostly deep fried! But it was all being made free and did look really good if you fancied that type of thing.
Gave this 5* mainly due to the really friendly staff and male keeper, with his amazing knowledge of the animals we witnessed being fed when we were visiting. He also had a good sense of humour and it was nice to see him interact with the animals he was feeding. I don't know if it was the time of year we visited but it was not busy at all but it also meant that the animals looked a little bit bored due to not many people milling about. The odd enclosure had a few more nettles and weeds than was necessary and these could have been reduced down slightly. Also the wooden fort in the café area was very boring. It could do with some ropes hanging down that the children can walk through, maybe some large or medium sized rubber tryes on the ground floor section to make it a bit more adventurous for the children. And finally the size of the coffee cup to the cost was a tad expensive. Apart from those few things I would probably visit again.
Despite its outward appearance listed building - BBC radio station, this is by far the best place to take children. All the inside areas are well labelled with digital screens and well-informed keepers. Amazing aquarium and nocturnal creatures area not to be missed. Talks by enthusiastic keepers. Two huge pirate ships and other areas for children to let off steam. 10/10.
Believe the good reviews, I think perhaps those who didn't enjoy it want a disney-esque experience. This site is about animals and their conservation. Family of 4. 2 adults, 1 teen and 1 ten yr old. Plenty for all to do. Weather was showery and lots to do when it rained. Drove 50 mins to visit and well worth it. This place is fantastic! It's not a big flashy zoo. But it does care for its animals very well and the staff go way beyond in their knowledge and customer service. The chap on the entrance explaining the history of the site, the layout of the park and feeding times etc was brilliant. Then the keepers were knowledgeable, obviously wanted to talk and took the time even when it wasn't at feeding times. The cafe and indoor area was clean and tidy, with the prices very good for this sort of park. In fact, the keen prices all around meant we had a bit spare to spend in the gift shop at the end! We will visit again and would recommend anyone to visit - big tip, don't be put off by the exterior, they definitely spend on the animals and inside attractions/play area.
Lovely afternoon here we really enjoyed it! Super friendly staff all round. Some nice different animals to look at, we especially enjoyed the nocturnal area for something new and the otter talk was another highlight. Absolutely brilliant play areas for the kids, we couldn't get them off. Great value, would definitely visit again if I was in the area. We ate hotdogs. toasties and chips in the cafe, it's not as bad as the negative reviews say and it wouldn't put me off coming again. Fab day! come and support the animals on this small zoo
