Trengwainton Tea Room
"Sheltered garden bursting with exotic trees and shrubsHere in this warm and luxuriant garden, you can follow in the footsteps of the 1920s plant hunters to see plants that flowered in Britain for the first time.Award-winning magnolias and rhododendrons are still nurtured by those with a passion for their beauty and extraordinary story and five sections of walled gardens are crammed with tender exotic species from around the world.Winding wooded paths follow a half-mile incline to sea views across Mount's Bay and the descent via the drive is bordered by a stream garden and open meadows. There’s also a kitchen garden built to the dimensions of Noah’s Ark.Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the garden."

Definitely worth a visit on a clear day, many interesting plants, with several old and relatively rare trees. Don't miss out on the large and unusual walled garden, with its south facing slopping beds. Good little cafe with outside seating area. Another must see is the tree fern glade with stream, never seen so many large tree ferns in one location. Don't visit the garden without making it to the Terrace with its view over Mounts Bay. Ample parking when the overflow carpark is included. Most areas seem to be accessible to wheelchair users, if going to the Terrace, it's easier to use the main drive, rather than taking the many side paths, but potentially several interesting sections may be missed.
Beautiful blooms within a tranquil setting. The gardens are beautiful whatever the season you visit providing a quiet place for a walk and a coffee I their cafe. We visited I. spring and the colours where quite something. Although there is a house within the gardens it is still privately owned and so not open to visitors.
Lovely and very well kept gardens with a large variety of plants, shrubs and trees. Great walled gardens too. Wonderful on a hot day for shade dog friendly The Cafe is very nice with lots of indoor and outdoor seating .
What a gem of a garden this is! Another National Trust winner for us. Real jungle feel and the reward of the peaceful lawn at the top and the very reasonably priced cafe on the way back! The walled gardens were fabulous and we loved the scarecrows - a really hilarious addition! Free windfall apples too - what's not to love.
What a lovely garden . Tucked away close to Penzance with a very picturesque gated entrance that is not used as the public entrance . Just past the gated entrance are two car parks , one on the right is an overflow car park with the second small car park on the left also being the public entry point. Both car parks are free and the entrance carpark also has a toilet . Walking down the windy entrance path to the main entrance / shop where entrance is free for National Trust members. We have yet to explore the whole gardens due to time constraints but we really enjoyed the walled garden , orchard area, the lovely second hand bookshop . We visited the cafe which was light and airy with plenty of seating inside and out. We had a pot of tea with china cups and the garden vegetable soup which we would highly recommend , the staff being polite and efficient. The cafe also has male, female and disabled toilets . The site has another toilet sited close to the second hand bookshop. We noted many beautiful mature trees which we will investigate further on our next visit. Finally the entrance also contains a national trust shop with a good selection of nice items / local plants.
Wonderful weather, wonderful flora. We had a lovely couple of hours strolling around followed by a drink and sandwich in the newly NT taken over cafe. Had heard some negative comments but personally found it fine. Great coffee and a good sandwich. Will have the croque sandwich next time, that looked delicious.
A peaceful setting with so much to see. The kitchen gardens and woodland walks are so beautiful. They have a wonderful bookshop in the grounds with a huge selection of material to read. We bought plenty of cooking apples from the orchard for 50p! Well worth the visit but make sure to put aside at least half a day to fully appreciate this place.
Lovely gardens away from the usual holiday traffic. Simple trail for the kids which definitely kept our 9 year old engaged all the way round! Lovely and thoughtful planting with lots of more exotic plants. Lots of areas covered in trees or taller plants providing cover from the Cornish rain! Tearoom was typical of National Trust tearooms with nice garden to sit in too if the sun shines.
5 stars for the most helpful and friendly staff. We precooked the charged loan of an off road mobility scooter price varies from a couple of pounds for short term mobility use or £10 for a years use through the membership scheme which made it possible for my wife to explore the entire area. Even the woodland and narrow pathways were accessible and there are some amazing plants to be seen. The tree ferns in particular were varied in size and beautiful. Toilet facilities including disabled by the cafe, entrance and book shop near the walled garden. The cafe is small but serves some tasty snacks and drinks although a little pricey.
Quite a surprise. Beautiful gardens many paths to follow and discover beautiful plants and trees. Great place to wander.
