Travelodge Birmingham Central Moor Street

Story

St Michael's Catholic Church is a Catholic church located on Moor Street in Birmingham, England. It received Grade II listed building status on 25 April 1952.HistoryThe building itself was first erected in 1726, but was burnt down the 1791 Priestley Riots, which targeted Dr. Joseph Priestley who was the minister at the Unitarian since 1780. The Unitarian New Meeting House was rebuilt ten years later and reopened in 1803.When the New Meeting House became unsuitable for congregation, they started construction on a new place of worship on Broad Street. The New Meeting House was purchased, remodelled and consecrated as a Roman Catholic church in 1862, at the time catering for a large influx of Irish and Italian immigrants who had settled in the area, leading to the church being known as "the Italian church".Following World War II, the church was adopted by the exiled Polish ex-servicemen and their families, and again has seen an influx in Polish congregations following the integration of Poland into the European Union in 2004, causing the congregation to grow fourfold. This has led to the creation of separate Polish Mass services.Prior to moving into St Michael's Church, the first Catholic mission in Birmingham was founded in Masshouse Lane in 1687 by the Franciscan Fathers. When this was burnt down in anti-Catholic riots in 1688, Mass continued to be offered in various improvised chapels until 1862.

Great service from all staff which is the most positive thing. Hallways and room smelt strongly of wacky baccy. Bed was unusually soft. Very hot room. Tiniest TV I think I've ever seen in a hotel. USB chargers by the bed, but no actual plugs in reaching distance. Wasn't even value for money compared to other hotels. I wouldn't choose to stay in this hotel again, however if it was only one night I'd make do.
I had a wonderful experience at Travelodge! The hotel rooms and facilities were clean and perfect. Usman Ali was great at accommodating, professional and very respectful. He made us feel comfortable and due to his great hospitality, the stay at Travelodge was excellent.Rooms: 5/5
Disgraceful Hotel unfortunately. Booked a room for 2 adults a couple, they checked us in a twin room with separate beds. Went to reception and they initially helpfully checked us in a different room, I explained we needed 1 double bed. To my surprise the new room was still a twin room with separate beds. I went to reception again abd they said there was nothing they could do. WHAT?? There were no double bed rooms available and they apparently were overbooked by 1 in their system. I was told we had to stick with the 2 beds. I said we might as well get back the key to our previous room as we hadn't moved our stuff to the new room yet, they said no, that it was hard to check us back into that other room once we checked into a new one. That's odd because it's exectly what they did previously. This is supposed to be a budget hotel but the price wasn't budget at all. Shocking service and rooms. The twin room is supposed to accommodate 2 but only had 1 big towel. It had 2 mugs but only 1 spoon and the toilet door doest close. There isn't even a soap bar or ANY toiletries. I asked for a toothbrush/bathroom kit at reception and they didn't have anything. Will never return unless desperate.
Noisy. Building works start EARLY outside hotel 5:30am today! and windows not very sound proof. Rooms ok but not cleaned during your stay. Was told that it would cleaned if I stayed longer than TWO weeks!!! Never had a decent night’s sleep and would never return. Much better options for similar or better price available. Front door of hotel usually surrounded by local drunks and druggies, so not the most comfortable of experiences returning to hotel after dark.
Staff friendly, located near to all attractions ,unfortunately we paid for a super room which had a leaky toilet every time it was flushed,so we got moved to a smaller room. I left my pj's behind under the quilt, when I realised later in the day our old room had already been re rented & my pj's had been thrown away ,not impressed!Rooms: 2/5
Stayed a couple of nights to spend a day in the city with family that we met off the train. Exceptionally efficient and welcoming staff on arrival and booked in very quickly. We love the cityscape views from the windows on the higher floor, so the young man on reception/check in called Christopher put us on the 6th floor and we loved it. Christopher needs special mention and deserves recognition from travelodge for his good work.
What a dump. Asked for a quiet room. Was allocated a room on the first floor over a noisy street next to the lift. Room is dirty and almost no noise control between rooms.Rooms: 3/5
Nice tidy room and good for budget, but pack ear buds as very busy road outside with large buses running until after midnight and starting up again at 530 so don't expect a good night's sleep unless you're a heavy sleeper...Rooms: 5/5
Excellent location but basic hotel in Birmingham city centre. Brilliantly located for New Street and the Bullring and not far from the likes of The Mailbox etc. Friendly staff, comfortable bed and reasonable room. We had an issue with our shower not draining which meant our bathroom floor got very wet. This did get sorted but when we requested towels replaced only one was, which wasn't ideal. Also very expensive for what it is, though presumably this was due to the Commonwealth Games being held in the city.
A modern Travelodge in a good location, convenient Tesco right next to the hotel. No bar but not an issue as you’re right in the city centre. Also close to the station. We had an issue with the shower draining slow and it overflowed when the water was on full pressure and we were only provided with one towel when the room was booked for two people - shouldn’t really have to go to the effort of going down to reception to ask for another one. The walls in the room were very dusty which is another thing that could be easily fixed.
