What an amazing place! We started with lunch in the Cafe, serving excellent sourdough toasted sandwiches - a great start to an amazing few hours. The walled garden was a pleasant stroll among the apple trees followed by browsing the craft shops and the onto the house itself. We received a brief but informative introduction from a knowledgeable guide and the toured the ground floor - I'd recommend the introductory video as it gives a great insight into the history of the house and family. The house itself has a great atmosphere and it's worth spending time in each open room to read the information and look at the items. Outside, the maze offers good entertainment and there are some animals and a play area for the children. All in all a fascinating way to spend a day
Interesting property and grounds to visit. House not overly interpreted; you get the information you need to understand the history of the house. Good cafe. Brewery produces interesting well priced beers. Some workshops in the grounds; bought a leather belt which was made for me while on the visit. Well worth a visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
I first found out about Traquair about 2 years ago when I came across their beer in Washington state. I of course read a brief history on the house, but it didn’t come close to preparing me for how awesome this whole house is. Please take an afternoon to visit, I only had 2 hours and it was not enough, I could have spent an entire day there! I hope to come back and rent a room. The history is amazing, the house is so well put together and so informative without being stuffy or pretentious. Everyone is so nice! If you get a chance to speak with Jan, do it! She is amazing!!! I learned so much from her and she was so welcoming and knowledgeable, I just wanted to spend the entire time with her. The brewmaster and other brewer on site today were so welcoming. They gave me a full history lesson on the brewery, since I’d come all the way from the “Hop Capital” of the US. It was just such a lovely afternoon and I can’t recommend it enough! On a “UK road trip” for my honeymoon, this was the best thing we’ve done by far!
A warm welcome from the guides at Traquair House, a family home with a wonderful atmosphere. It's a fascinating house to wander through and discover the interesting artefacts along with the turbulent history of the Scottish borders. Well worth a trip to the cosy cafe after exploring the grounds, craft workshops and brewery.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Excellent historical home. Well worth a visit with lots of grounds to explore. The guides were brilliant, very knowledgeable and friendly.
Traquair is probably the best value for money house/estates we've ever visited. For the reasonable entry price you get access to one of the more historic homes and estates around. We toured the house first and suggest you watch the introductory video early in the tour. It's an interesting house to explore with great history behind it. There were a few walks around parts of the estate one of which is wheelchair friendly The cafe was pretty reasonable and the food tasty although our only negative about our visit was that we thought the chips were well overpriced for the portion size but then there's plenty of other reasonably priced meal choices. A very enjoyable place to visit.
First time I've been to this location. I came along as a Celebrant, marrying a couple and what a wonderful venue to get married at! The staff are extremely helpful and really lovely, it felt a homely and peaceful event and I loved it, as did the couple and their guests. Couldn't recommend it more, as a wedding venue but also simply to visit. I cannot wait to come back as a regular visitor. Thank you for being so very welcoming!
Arrived lunch time mid week. Family of 4, 2 adults 2 kids, 11 & 8. Family ticket for grounds + house £30. Was enough variation on site to keep us occupied for 3-4 hours. Great communication from some very friendly staff, particularly at the entrance gate & in the house itself. Walled garden - not much going on but nice quiet spot to sit. Cafe was decent, no more pricey than other places like this but bring a packed lunch if you want to save doubling the price of your visit. Maze was fun to negotiate & house itself had plenty to see. Small play park for the kids along with a few chickens, pigs & goats to see. On site brewery added some diversity with ales to buy on site along with a small gift shop & 2 craft gift shops, containing on site crafted leather, jewellry & glass products ran by 2 very friendly & talented guys. All in all a decent visit to kill half a day.
Great place. Need to spend all day there as lot to see and explore. Lovely house over 3 floors plus chapel, dining rooms, laundry and brewery where you can taste and buy beer to take home .Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Went to the medieval fair weekend at the end of May. Camped in the neighbouring field very, very basic but otherwise brilliant. Lots of activities from archery to jousting, and beautiful grounds. Little park and mini animal but for the kids as well as a maze. Lovely little cafe and we got to try the Traquair beer which is delicious. Just a beautiful place to be.
