Everything about our meal was perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I had a chicken special which was cooked to perfection and the tiramisu was the best I've ever had. The only problem was that we forgot to tip which gives us a good excuse to return as quickly possible.
Extremely well-run little Italian restaurant near the Barbican. Set out exactly as you'd expect, with a concealed view into the kitchen where the chefs beaver away to make cracking food in a short time without fuss. Served by great staff who make sure you are kept happy and content. Clearly owned and run by an Italian family and their close friends.
Great atmosphere and well decorated. The menu can be a little hard to read but having it themed like a newspaper is a nice concept. The pizzas very nice with thin bases. Desserts are very good too
Really lovely atmosphere, deeeeelicious food. We came up from Exeter and were delighted with our booking. We would have gone back Tuesday but they are closed... thoroughly recommend it, excellent.
Really enjoyed dining here during our mini break to York. The staff were all friendly. The atmosphere was wonderful, it felt homely and comfortable. The food was spot on, we had a starter garlic bread/pizza, and main courses from the pasta section. Freshly made and authentic. Will definitely be returning. Pre-booking is advisable, as there is limited seating. I would say it was well priced too, with the bill coming to just under £40 for a sharer starter, 2 mains, and 2 drinks one of which was a wine.
Had a fantastic experience at Toto's, where the food was some of the best Italian I've ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasty. The staff were welcoming and funny, creating this lovely atmosphere. I'd happily eat here again and again!

The highs of my dining here were the lovely atmosphere and the friendly and attentive staff. But I was expecting something a little more authentic based on the Google reviews. Mozzarella in carrozza turned out to be just two pieces of breaded mozzarella, not the deep-fried toast. The pizza base was just wrong but the toppings were generous and tasty, and pasta all'amatriciana does NOT call for red and green peppers none at all in fact and pasta shouldn't be served with garlic bread. The food was nice, and I have no issue with restaurants adapting to local taste. I just wish one of the reviews had pointed this out beforehand, as I feel a bit cheated by the 4.7 star rating not the restaurant's fault, more the fact that most English people have never tried actual Italian food. I still gladly give it 5 stars for service and atmosphere. The food came quickly and was nicely presented.
Visiting York and heard of Totos as a recommendation with it being a family run Italian restaurant. Both myself and my partner felt the service was a bit rushed and the two waiters we had didn't seem to come across as friendly. They did check up on us during our main albeit were nearly finished. We however could not fault the food. The chefs did an amazing job with our meals. We had a lovely garlic pizza bread to share that was just the right amount of garlic. The two mains were a bolognese pizza and risotto marinara which was very authentic. Ending on the classic tiramisu which was strong. While the decor was nice I believe it would have been much better when it gets darker outside to get that nice atmosphere. All in all, food brings the rating up while service brings it down.
An absolute favourite restaurant. My partner and I came across Totò's by accident the first time we visited York and now we make sure to go every time we go to York. Delicious food, friendly staff and such a lovely atmosphere - definitely worth a visit!Food: 5/5
