Absolutely amazing museum. Everything very professionally exhibited at a beautiful location overlooking the estuary. Delightful small garden outside and opposite. Really well presented with a fascinating history of Topsham. Not just maritime history but also religious & social history with recreated rooms and wonderful stories. Free! Excellent tea room. Friendly, helpful staff.

A delightful museum housed in 17th Century buildings with a mix of period rooms and a large number of local history exhibits and displays, mostly maritime, that range from Roman times right up to the very recent discovery, in the Arctic, of the wreck of 'HMS Terror' a 19th Century, Topsham-built ship. The entire establishment is run and staffed by volunteers, which would explain the warm and welcoming feel of the museum. There is a busy tearoom that specialises in home-made food, two immaculate gardens to relax in and a shop that sells Topsham-orientated memorabilia, local history publications and gifts. Especially recommended would be a Devon Cream Tea, in the gardens, after a tour of the displays.
