Always order off the too good to go app regularly and have never been disappointed with anything I have picked up yet. Everything is all packed up nicely to go and always hot. Staff are very friendly and helpful. And I only live a mile away from the Newport Toby carvery. And although the staff are all lovely there as well and they are. I just don't want to have to go to the chip shop and buy gravy for me dinner. And I don't have to in Cardiff there just bang on every time. And that's what I need coming from Newport.
After waiting to be seated, received a disinterested offer from an older woman to follow her to a table.. while she continued her conversation with another staff member. She obviously needs some basic training on how to welcome customers! Food was as expected, but many of the condiments hadn't been replenished, so we had to wait 3-4 minutes while our food got cold before a tiny pot of cranberry sauce was produced, enough for only 2-3 people. Definitely not worth the money, so won't be returning.
Meat was perfectly cooked, stuffing was a bit over cooked and cauliflower was watery, not a very large choice of vegetables. The ladies toilet was out of order but there was another toilet available. The coffee machine was out of order so only instant coffee available. It was very busy so que for food was slow as there was only one server. Having said all that , over all it was good food at an extremely cheap price and I would definitely eat there again. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful
Christmas lunch for 4 adults and 2 children today. We are regular Toby customers so were a bit worried it wouldn't have been special enough for the big day. But from the minute we walked in the atmosphere was really festive. The staff were excellent, in a festive mood and couldn't do enough for us. Food was beautiful as usual with the starters and puddings excelling!!! The bookings were staggered so no queuing and portions of roasts huge!!! Vegetarian options went down well. Crackers on the table recyclable and a Christmas card. An all round enjoyable experience. Thank you Toby x x
Well, I rarely complain about service received. However, today, Toby Carvery reception made me feel they are owed one. Walked in without a booking blame hindsight, extremely hungry kids, full restaurant, and the reception treated us as if we weren't valued. "WE don't have a space, you have to sit in the bar..." I checked came back and said seats are reserved, "Well then we don't have any..." No courteouness, no customer service, no option given on how quick we might be able to get another space. I heard the waitress say table 25 just became available. But, we were treated poorly. I want to say we were the ONLY coloured family in there. Probably explains their behaviour. Toby Carvery service was really poor. Never going back to Cardiff Gate for any occasion from now.
Nice place located close to the IBIS hotel and a nice spot to eat if needed. Reason it's a 2 star is because our party booked a table in advance for breakfast but when we were arrived the chefs were beginning to switch to serving dinner so all that was left was a few sausages and hash browns. Not the best first impressions considering we still had alot of time before breakfast ended Front of house staff were also rude and instead of giving us answers to our questions, simply directed us to the bar for them to answer instead
Initially just stopped at the bar for a drink, we were served by an older member of staff non uniformed dear me she was certainly not welcoming at all. As it was raining we decided to eat, I went to the desk where above member of staff was now on and asked if we could possibly have a table for two, only to get a grumpy "have you got a reservation" I felt like saying if I had a reservation I would have said so and not asked if there was any possibility of getting a table. After a few humming and harrings, she said follow me and off she went, I had to go back and get my wife and drinks, fortunately we managed to find where she had gone. The food quality was absolutely dire, however the waitress serving us was pleasant and efficient. Would we eat here again......no chance whatsoever. Tip for management, if the lady who served us at the bar and then on reception, please give her training in customer service, a smile and cheery hello costs nothing goes a long way to making your customers feel welcome
Really appreciated our family meal at Toby Carvery Cardiff Gate today, amazing customer service. Beautiful cooked roast and a lovely relaxed visit. A massive thanks to our waitress Tracieleigh for looking after us, always making the outing more enjoyable. Thank you so much
Lovely staff and customer service! Always had a smile when asked for something and nothing was too much trouble, even during a busy Sunday ! Katie was super helpful / attentive and another server Penny checked in on us to ensure our 5 month /2 year old were comfortable through out our time eating ! Food was also hot and packed with flavour! We will definitely be back again soon. Vegetarian options: Plenty of options including gravy option! Kid-friendliness: Staff so attentive to the children! It was our first trial meal out as a family and it was perfect because of the staff awareness Parking: Plenty of parking space
They have a Karen as a management for this particular branch that runs late for her 12pm shift on a Saturday and tailgates you throwing hands at you whilst dangerously driving to try to get around you Keep in mind this happened on the tiny stretch between the services and the place itself lol. Shame really, I liked this place but thankfully theres others in the area : Formal complaint submitted to corporate, don't be nasty to the general public en-route to the restaurant you work at whilst in your uniform then have the gall to walk past me like you weren't berating me prior to it all. Oh, and also go on a time management course.
