One of my favourite walks, starting with the old railway tunnel and then out onto the trail. There’s some beautiful countryside to enjoy and one of the nicest things about my trail walks is encountering many walkers and cyclists who never fail to greet me. There are toilets at the start of the trail and car parking too. Highly recommended for a stimulating walk.
It is a great trail, the route from Ashbourne is a steady 1.5 - 2% gradient all the way to Parsley Hay so don’t be fooled in to going too hard or it’ll wear you out fast. Fantastic view and wildlife all the way but it can get busy on holidays and weekends which will slow your bike ride down.
February 2020 was a nice walk after the only snowfall of pv of doom winter 19/20 I remember there was still drifts on top beeley Moor this day on the way here though it snowed to matlock and nottingham level to no snow was left unlike above 300m
Good place to get lost in the nature. Quite and calm. You can jog a bit and come back or if you are determined- go extra mile, you won't regret it either!
From the bike hire carpark, £4.75p it is a long arduous gentle but relentless climb for an hour. Asked at two cafes for bottled water, but had none, only cans of sugary pop. Made a detour to Newhaven to a pub restaurant, but was closed.
