Lovely tea room serving lunches and afternoon teas - scones with clotted cream and your choice of jam are highly recommended. After enjoying refreshments, there's a small but well stocked museum to look around, charting the history of Tiptree and jam manufacturing. Exhibits range from historic jars and artefacts to impressive machines once used in the factory. Outside there's more to see, including some great classic tractors and agricultural equipment. There's also a gift shop selling the full range of top quality Tiptree produce. Sufficient on-site parking available. Worth noting that last orders at the tearoom are a while before closing time - with queues outside taking a while to move, I'd recommend not leaving it too late if you want to ensure you'll get in.
This was a lovely place to end our weekend away. You do have to queue if you would like a table in the tearoom but they have chairs in the queue area. The scones are worth the wait! They cater for gluten free and dairy free options, too. The jam museum and shop are a must to look round before you leave.
Visited as we were in the area. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff at the entrance and opted to sit outside in the garden which is lovely. The weather was superb and the food was OK but nothing to write home about however for the prices it was good quality. Some staff are friendly others are a bit reserved and quiet.
Had a gift card for Afternoon Tea which was nearing its use-by date so we took a drive out today. Enjoyed our sparkling tea, brightened up a rainy afternoon! We had 2 rounds of sandwiches of our choice, plus the usual scones and cakes. We had time to have a quick look round the museum before we left too. Only thing that marred our visit was that despite the website stating that the closing time was 4-30pm, what it didn't say anywhere on the website was that the food service starts to be restricted much earlier. Hot food and specials stop at 3pm and sandwiches at 3-30pm. For the final hour it's only drinks and cakes available. Fortunately we were seated by 3-30pm after waiting in the queue for about 20 mins or so and we're able to order the afternoon tea that we'd gone for. It would be helpful to have this additional information in the website. Edit ..after contacting the company to feedback on the lack of information regarding the opening times and what food is available when they replied to advise that they had acted on the suggestion. What a responsive company, well done!
Always Great Food and Service The wife and I visit here bimonthly and have done for over two decades. The food is always fresh and wholesome and the service is mostly top notch. Even when they’re packed out the door, the service rarely disappoints. On this particular visit, we went for the massive ploughman’s and several sandwich’s. All was marvellous and we look forward to returning again soon. M&L
Lovely little place! The most amazing jams ever and a cute little museum if you are interested in the the history of this fantastic brand! The loveliest staff ever, only things stops it being five star is the little bit battered and ‘rustic’ furniture in the cafe. Will be back!
We visited here for the first time on Saturday lunchtime for a bite to eat and a mooch around the museum and shop. We opted for two Farmhouse Ploughman’s lunches, which left a lot to be desired. We’d customised them as I don’t like pickles and so swapped it for something else, but they’d made this incorrectly. Not a big deal, but the food itself wasn’t really anything worth £14 each. One slightly stale half-baguette with a mound of lettuce, a few small bits of salad, two slices of ham, a cube of cheese and two grapes with a scotch egg on the side. Massively regret not getting the afternoon tea for two which looked a hell of a lot more appetising. The shop however was lovely and well stocked. The prices are incredibly reasonable and I purchased a few of their mini jars to try some of the other products. Then we went into the museum which is laid out in a large room behind the cafe, and walks you through the history of Wilkin & Sons from day one to present day. Really interesting and fun to see the changes and development throughout the years. Overall we had a nice day but I wouldn’t return due to the poor food experience.
They were very busy and had to queue for about 15 minutes, we only wanted a cappuccino which was very good, staff were polite and pleasant, there is the jam shop selling a wide range of jams plus the museum you can walk round and see the history of John Wilkin Collection of jam making, the museum is only on a small scale but well worth a visit. Would highly recommend.
This unusual venue is really great. The museum is delightful and it has a great shop where you can buy tasty jams and marmalade alongside other interesting gifts. The Tea room is clean and comfortable, and a good selection of food and drinks, cakes and scones. Well worth a visit.Food: 4/5
Side salad consisted of iceberg lettuce one slice tomato and one slice cucumber! No dressing and a few crisps. Toastie was ham & cheese all for £7.50 We had to wait for ages and no one asked if everything was ok with our food. Was not impressed!
