This review relates to this nightclub many years ago when it was called BROOKSIES (having changed from Martines) In those days it was the BEST nightclub on the south coast between Bournemouth and Brighton and no one would argue with that. Full to capacity (700+) every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday night. The only night club in Southern England that went for three years WITHOUT a single fight on the premises. Door lads were mostly warrant officers from the Military Police Barracks - tough nuts but gentlemen with it. Owned at the time by John Goodhew - he eventually gave into the lure of £££££ and sold it on. It has never been the same since and some 25 years later it is now a hell hole for the ignorant. Anyone else have any memories of Brooksies I wonder

I've only been here once but it was pretty bleak; our lot turned up and pretty much doubled the female attendance, because the ratio of males to females was about 8:1, and most of those men were minimum wage malcontents in Ben Sherman shirts, looking for somebody to push or snipe at. I was 28 at the time and looked older, but my ID was checked by the overzealous jobsworths on the door, who seemed to lack any common sense. The music is just generic Ministry of Sound bumwash that you expect to find at this sort of provincial meat-pit and the drinks are overpriced. I got the feeling that the only time the place played host to an equal amount of both sexes was student nights, and even then student girls wouldn't enjoy the clumsy efforts of the usual patrons; swaggering, monosyllabic himbos looking to finish the night in ineffectual, drunken sex or pointless, drunken violence. Save your money, time and dignity and visit your nan.
