Beautiful and large area to wonder around, please note you may barely get the mobile signal, so if you are a ‘Always online’ kind, not a place. But it is a nice serene place to wonder around along with your kid, family and pets. There is a great cafe house and two large parking area for you. Parking is not free. I will recommend to visit to this place with your friends and families and you may have a small picnic too.
A really great place to take the dogs for a walk. There are plenty of different trails to take whether you're just wanting to go for a short stroll or prefer to go on a longer walk. There's a wide range of scenery including woodlands, lakes, meadows and even a Gruffalo trail of you're going with the kids.
One of the best country parks around! Great variety of scenery and walks. Have to pay a fair amount for parking but the park is maintained very well so worth it. Good toilet facilities. The cafe is very friendly and helpful although a little more food options might be nice. Would highly recommend!
One of the most 'children friendly' parks from the whole London area, that features The Gruffalo story and its characters. It's very green and the air is unpolluted. There are many playgrounds for children and an information centre, plus a parking area. Playground: Very good for leaving children on their own. Restrooms: Decently clean. Dog-friendliness: Many dogs around. Picnic area: Picnic friendly.
Such a gem! Something for all types of hikers, from dense forest to clear high climbs with gorgeous views of surrounding neighborhood. Visitors can walk/hike/run, horse ride, or cycle. Ample car parking, and picnic/rest stops. Lovely clean and green. Go visit.
A lovely country park with a Gruffalo trail. Wide paths with a mixed woodland. I think parking is expensive, especially if u want to stop for a quick walk. It is beautiful, the autumn leaves are full of colour. With grey squirrels floating over the ground, stocking up for winter!
Even on a busy Saturday morning in the North car park you can escape to the peaceful woods in 5 minutes and not meet a soul. Really beautiful autumn colours. OK so the odd group of off-road cyclists might take 1 of tge trails but they're gone in a minute. And a welcoming cup of coffee back in the Visitor Centre when you're done walking.
Only came across this picturesque colorful country park when searching for The Gruffalo Trail with handcrafted characters from Julia Donaldson’s bestselling picture book - The Graffalo. The Country Park didn't disappoint at all! It is a natural beauty! You can spend countless hours observeing the 500 acres of diverse habitats and wildlife with delights and full of appreciation - all praise to the Lord! It is a fabulous place for all members of the family to walk, cycle, run, exercise, have picnic in the midst of nature with fresh air! Thorndon Country Park is full of characters including colourful Woodlands with tall canopies of trees, birdlife, open parkland, fishing, famous Gruffalo Trail, the deer Park, compacted walking Trail, Heritage Trail, fenced picnic areas, lots of picnic tables, café, visitor centre & gift shop toilets including baby changing areas & disabled Toilets, Fishing Lake with wildfowl, all terrain bike hire, mountain bike trail, accessible bike hire, guided cycling group, horse riding, orienteering course, Pay & Display Car Parks and much much more! Thorndon is open 7 days a week from 8 am till dusk. Thorndon Country Park is divided into two major sides - Thorndon North & Thorndon South - based in the facilities and car parks making it easier for all visitors to explore the park in an enjoyable way! Don't forget your wellies if you want to jump in muddy puddles and walk through challenging trails! Thorndon North off The Avenue is where the Visitor Centre, the Graffalo Trail and TrailNet are located! Thorndon South off Brentwood Road leads the way by providing easy access to dedicated walking routes, open Parklands suitable for picnics and picturesque viewpoints on top of hills - enjoying view across countryside as far as Canary Wharf. There is a pavilion with Café and toilet facilities. Thorndon North has Childerditch Pond, while Thorndon South has Old Hall Pond attracting diverse habitats and wildlife to both parts of the Country Park! Each side has large visitors Car park with dedicated Blue Badge Holders only bays! Mobile Network is very poor and hence, purchasing parking ticket through mobile app might be bit tricky! There are playing machines available with Contactless Payment. Disabled Blue Badge Holders are not exempt from parking charges and must Pay & Display or buy tickets through mobile app. The Country Park is a favourite destination for all ages of all abilities - nature lovers, joggers , runners , dog-walkers, cycling groups, children, families! TrailNet - a community interest company - is doing an amazing job providing onsite training, guided cycling tour and accessible bikes for those with access needs! One drawback is that there is no Children's Play Area. The nearest play area is at the nearby King George's Playing Fields - further North of the Thorndon North. A nature-themed children's play area with adventure sports could be another valuable addition to this magnificent country park It is a must visit Park for everyone!
Have been several times now with various grandchildren on the Gruffalo trail. They all loved it, reading the map and finding all the characters. Small shop expensive and cafe not expensive Plenty of parking, although last time we visited, one parking ticket machine was not working so had to track down another... Allocate about 2-3 hours depending on how quick you walk.. Nice to be able to chat and keeps the kids happy too.
Nice walk with the dog and a friend. Also drunk one of the best hot chocolates. Good day...
