Staying nearby we decided to book a table for Sunday lunch , on arrival we were greeted by friendly helpful staff. Looking at the menu we ordered Beef and Turkey meals and cauliflower cheese side dishes . We were not disappointed everything was cooked to perfection, very tasty and generous portions. One of the best roast dinners I have ever tasted , unfortunately I was too full to order a pudding .The grandchildren had roast dinners which were also a good portion , we ordered 3 puddings which I've been told were excellent. Along with good real ale and the fact we could also take our dog along with us we will definitely be back again on our next visit to the Forest of Dean .
Lovely pub. Great friendly staff. Dog friendly inside and high chair available for your little ones. Food was great pub grub. Big portions. I had the fish finger sandwich and it was delicious and reasonably priced. Wye Valley beer on draught. Would definitely return
Did as sign by entrance stated and waited to be seated, only to be called over to bar after a few minutes ‍ Staff were really friendly, place seemed packed with happy diners. We only ended up with a drink and ice cream after a hot walk, but there were several salads on the menu plus a roast that all sounded delicious could smell the roast cooking, made my mouth water! Seemed a bit pricey but I've not visited other pubs/restaurants in the area yet to compare. We had a pint of pale ale, a single rum and coke, a can of Coke then a pint of draught coke, followed by 3 x 3scoops of ice cream, paid just shy of £27. Would like to return for a cooked meal one day though
Really good food at a good price. Service was slow, which let the rating down, even though there seemed to be plenty of staff. Very dog-friendly. You can take your dog in, if you don't mind eating in the bar area.
Staff were fine ,no complaints there but the menu was not good. I like burgers but do not like brioche buns , I have an aversion to butter, the only thing I could choose was pie and chips . Had exactly the same meal the day before from Fridays in Bream for more than half the price. A bit more variety please
Great burgers! Chicken burger was absolutely delicious. My teenaged daughter said her Dexter beefburger was one of the best she'd had and my husband's Steak n ale pie of the day was excellent. Somehow managed to squeeze in desserts too! Friendly staff.
the setting of the place was nice but we stood at the door waiting to be seated to then not be served so we sat ourselves at a table. we then went to ask for menus to be told the kitchen was closed… baring in mind we went at 6pm which seemed a bit odd. after we ordered drinks and sat back down we then saw food being served to multiple people so the kitchen must have been in use / open. bit disappointing as we were staying close by and thought a quick pop in would be nice. sadly did not have a good experience…
A pleasant country pub in the middle of the little village of Parkend. Most of the interior given over to eating rather than drinking but has a cosy bar area as well. A couple of decent local ales on tap, which is nice to see. Very convenient if you are staying at Whitehead forest park. I had the pie, which I'm pleased to say was a proper pie. Not a flaky lid on a pot. Chicken and leek, very acceptable.
Delicious evening family meal! Steak and ale pie was very tasty, packed full of meat and burger meal was flavourful with loads of tasty trimmings. And the staff were very professional and friendly. Thank you!
Lovely lunch after a walk at RSPB Nagshead reserve. Lovely food and lovely, friendly, polite staff, the pub itself is spotless and is tastefully decorated to a high standard. We were made to feel very welcome and the food was really great value, fresh salad, and both my wife and myself throughly enjoyed our experience, the food was also great value, we will most certainly be back, thanks for looking after us guys..
