Came for Sunday lunch. Had seen the menu the previous week and booked on this basis. Was disappointed on return as the veggie option was a cherry tomato and feta tart with salad. It turned out to be a couple of layers of undercooked puff pastry with whole cherry tomatoes and a grating of feta on top. No seasoning, just tomatoes and pastry. I would have preferred something with the traditional trimmings, not a salad. My preference though and I do understand that others might have different opinions.nnOther half had roast gammon and it was wafer thin, bacon would have been thicker. He did comment that the sprouts still had the dried, brown cut from the field on them, not trimmed.nnThe staff, although lovely and friendly and attentive, looked unduly harassed which they didn't the previous week, there looked to be a few local football teams in the pub eating sharing platters which may have been the cause.nnIt was 20 mins from being seated to taking our pre lunch drink order. I did think we had been forgotten about, but when the lady took the drinks order she did apologise for being busy.nnI dont think we will return for food, overall it was disappointing for a first time although the pub is a great spot to pop in for a pint as we have done many times in the past.
Good choice on menu. Waited quite a while, but not complaining because when the food arrived you could see it was well prepared and cooked fresh. Excellent taste and presentation and very good value.nnMy only complaint was a lack of choice of beer, which was by no means a deal breaker, but a couple of cask ales besides the Double Maxim and this would have been an easy 5 review.nnWouldn't hesitate to return for another meal.
The food is nice but the whole place is just catered as a village boozer. Everyone staring at you as the odd one out. They can't even acknowledge you to ask how the food was, get the feeling they actually don't want you in there. Avoid unless you like 'MakE ARe CuNtry Gr8 AgaIN' vibes
All I can say is what a AMAZING place the white lion is for food especially the Sundays dinner and if you want to chill the pints are refreshing I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND keep doing what your doing
Popped in for lunch after seeing the TikToks made by the chef at least I think he’s the chef- whoever makes the TikTok with my parents. Prices are extremely reasonable. The food came to less than £40 for a double cheeseburger, a chicken burger, a chicken curry and a portion of halloumi fries. A slight wait on food but well worth it. Thank you, three very happy people and hopeful regulars if I can keep driving from Washington each week.
