Food was disappointing. Suspect they are resting on their laurels. Great sausage and mash let down by the absence of anything green which would have improved the flavour and appearance. The tagine may have been vegetarian but that's no excuse for it tasting so bland. A touch of something ( ras el hanout, maybe ?) would have lifted it.

Stayed for a meal as this was one of the few places that served food all day. Had a fulfilling meal of good quality and value. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice range of beers.

I had a late lunch here today with my partner and 2 year old son. We arrived after getting soaked in the rain walking up from the Steam Railway Station. The first thing the bar manager did was get us towels to dry off. We had a great lunch and I can highly recommend the delicious homemade pies. Staff were friendly and accommodating and showed us around 2 of their rooms when we expressed an interest in finding an old English place for our American in-laws to experience and we are seriously considering The White Lion for overall atmosphere, good food, great room and possibly even a ghost thrown in! I would highly recommend The White Lion for a meal or a stay. Thank you for your hospitality, we'll be back soon for Sunday lunch! PS Reviews left when this establishment was under old management should be removed/ignored.
