Since lockdown the wayfarer has gone downhill and prices increased so after giving it wide berth for nearly a year I tried it again. The beef shin pie is a taste sensation. The mash and peas lovely as is the gravy. Only 4 stars due to the size of the pie compared to the price. It needed a bigger pie or lower price to get 5 stars. Taste wise without doubt 5 stars. But overall an improvement on how the food had been over the last year.
Visited for the first time, we went in a walk that was recommended on their website which was really good and easy to follow. Afterwards we ate and the Sunday Roast Sharing Platter was amazing! Had a Sundae afterward too which was equally as good. Most definitely recommend!
Lovely home made food. Perfect portion sizes. Bit of a trek from us, Bolton, but we will definitely return
We had a table for 10 for Sunday lunch and there was not one complaint from anyone. All the food was spot on. The chicken wings starter was immense.Food: 5/5
Really enjoyed a meal as a family group. Reasonably priced, good quality food and very friendly service. Welcoming to walkers we were pretty muddy! and catered well for kids with a good selection of options for them to eat.Food: 5/5
Best roast dinner I've ever had. We shared a Sunday platter for two and every element was cooked to perfection. Crispy roast potatoes and not a soggy sprout in sight. 7 of us ate altogether and everyone's plates were clean at the end. Staff were friendly and attentive and were more than happy to stop and chat with Grandad and the children who love a good chinwag!
Main course was very nice, I had the fish and chips, very large portion, I enjoyed it very much. Staff were absolutely lovely and checked up on us multiple times. However. When it came time for ordering desserts there were only two available options from the whole menu available!! One was the chocolate cake. This tasted very bad. Seems they cooked some kind of tomato dish in what it was served in before hand, as there was a potent tomato/onion flavour to the cake, which was very off-putting. I give it 3 stars.
Whilst the recent investment is clear to see there’s no getting away from the fact that this is a pub charging above average ‘restaurant’ prices. £42 for a Fillet Rossini?!! I nearly fell off my chair! £22 for a sirloin? Sorry but I can pay £29.95 and £19.95 respectively at The Fat Italian down the road and have my wine poured and get silver service. Food is lovely, presentation is good, service was good but not anywhere near what you’d expect for the £££s. Yes there are cheaper options on the menu but still on the pricey side. Unfortunately it’s not ‘special’ enough for special occasions and too expensive for a drop in bite to eat. Shame because as a nice village pub with a good menu, great food, good service it ticks all the boxes.
The wayfarers has gone down hill from its previously high standards. The service was sub standard in fact rude at times, plates not cleared away for ages. When I asked how the meal was, I said not as good as previous visits I wasn't even asked why? Our desserts where cremated and I was given a dirty spoon. This is not a reflection of the young girl she was polite and sweet. We are booked for November which we shall be cancelling, and not returning till they sort themselves out.
Very nice place good atmosphere food was lovley
