We had a very enjoyable meal there. The quality of the food was outstanding and seemed in keeping with the price, with the meat particularly tasty and well prepared. The service was also very good and the meals arrived promptly and at the perfect temperature. The menu has a reasonable amount a choice of subtle dishes on a traditional base. One small downside is that some dishes were not available. The decor is forgettable but the atmoshpere has a nice balance for a quiet setting where you can have a conversation without hearing or being overheard. Overall I much recommend for a special occasion, the food will not disappoint.
We booked a birthday party for 7 as a surprise for my 66 year old mother. On entering the building I could not help feel I was walking into a seaside cafe. The choice of menu was poor, I think there were 7 options, it might have been 8: Lamb, Chicken, Steak, Fish Platter, Halibut, Monk Fish and Sea Bass. One of our party is a vegetarian so we enquired what they had and we were given one option, a pie consisting of courgettes, peppers and mashed potato. Now although very expensive I could not fault the quality of the food. Was it worth the extortionate charge? No as it is about the whole evening, the atomosphere, surroundings and how welcome you are made to feel. Apart from the quality of the food the rest was abysmal, you are made to feel more welcomed at McDonalds and that is not an exaggeration. The staff did not make us feel welcome from the moment we entered the building. They seemed more interested in how they looked and appeared than ready to serve you, yes very smart but though they were customers rather than staff. When they spoke to you it was not with a smile, the least I would have expected was maybe a happy birthday wish to my mother. We had pre-booked them to supply a couple of balloons and a cake. The balloons were on the table and after the meal we were presented with a cake. After it was presented to my mother we were left sitting there a good 10 minutes, we had to go and ask for a knife and some plates. Now the cake, it was terrible, stale and obviously shop brought. We never ate more than a mouthful and when they brought the packaging out to take it away with us I was amazed to see it was a Morrisons £3.99 job, the extra pleasure of this was the £20 charge on the bill. To summarise Great tasting food but very over priced, poor menu choice unless you like fish, surroundings poor, staff miserable and service average to slow. Would any of us go back NO. The two reviews both starting "Wonderful" are obviously related to the company and both written on the 23rd July Come ON!!
Went with my daughter last night.Very nice food promptly served. Chef seems a bit heavy handed with the sauces ,but not a problem. décor a bit tired and plain needs a bit more atmosphere, I have booked a table for my husband and I next week so fingers crossed - he is very fussy.!!!
Pretty good atmosphere , a nice menu and the food was lovely . Being from Australia we walked in off the street not knowing what to expect but were pleasantly surprised . The owner/manager is dropdead gorgeous and really friendly and helpful . I've recommended this restaurant to friends travelling to the UK .
Great food and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Would definitely eat here again. The pre-theatre menu choice is fab
A good restaurant with very nice food, and good French cuisine. I enjoyed my visit to the cafe and the service was good. The best part of my meal was the potatoes. I would suggest getting them!
Lovely welcome, staff, menu, ambience, food.
