We dine here fairly regularly and just love the ambience of the place. It's the epitome of an English country pub and the staff are what makes it so welcoming and friendly. We've had varied experiences regarding the food, but if something is not up to the standard we expect, it is quickly rectified. In all fairness, the delicious food we've eaten here far outweighs the occasional disappointment, and the fact we keep coming back says it all! It's our "local" and although it can be expensive, we're very glad to have it on our doorstep.

A warm welcome awaits at this beautiful village pub. It was our first visit but we immediately felt at home as everyone wished us happy new year. The food was amazing, the layout convivial without feeling crowded and the roaring open fire was lovelyService: 5/5

We had a brilliant time staying here for two nights. The room was very clean and fitted out with very comfortable furniture. The food in the pub was excellent, we had dinner there one night as well as the breakfast and it was delicious.Rooms: 5/5

Good place to stay, plenty of walks, meals mostly awesome. Dog friendly. The loss of 2 stars was because before we left yesterday Friday 14 April 2023 we had to wait 35 mins for our meal, the smoked salmon had been cut up and what looked like cooked with the scrambled eggs rendering the eggs pink - not a pleasant sight and completely different from when we had it twice before.  The waitress was conspicuous by her absence.

The pub is nice and cosy. The food prices are quite high and portions are small. I am not a big eater, and unfortunately, I was left hungry after finishing the plate of roast chicken with mashed potatoes. The pudding was tasty, but I only ordered it as I was still hungry after the main. We paid almost £60 for two meals, one pudding and two cups of tea, which in my opinion is a little bit overpriced for a pub lunch. Shame.

The food was good, but for a non-discretionary 12.5% service charge, I would expect to have been provided with a knife that would cut through the meat, to be offered coffee and when the coffee arrives after requesting it at the bar, that it would come with sugar. The staff were polite and smiley, but there were a lot of cobwebs and mouldy window frames, so it was a bit disappointing.

We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at this pub. The roasts were excellent - particularly enjoyed the pork belly and the lovely Yorkshire pudding - and served nice and hot, the sticky toffee pudding was delicious and the service was excellent.

Lovely, traditional English pub - with considerable and significant history - in a picturesque and charming English village. Warm welcome, friendly atmosphere and a great pint of Guinness.Rooms: 5/5

Went here twice whilst staying nearby. Lovely popular local pub, Nice atmosphere, child and dog friendly, great food. Will definitely come back if I'm in the area again.Rooms: 5/5

Had lunch here with wifey on my birthday. Lunch & service was perfectly satisfactory.  To meanie like me it seemed a tad expensive, but being fair to 'Thomas Lord ' it is probably the going rate. So, a sort of smile thro' gritted teeth... 'Rooms' isn't scored as we only went for lunch.Service: 5/5
