Liked it will go again... let's tell you why. The staff are nice some particularly more so than others. I only had a light starter & dessert from the menu and I liked my food choices, see photos. They had a live singer performing in the garden and this really added to the experience. Seating indoors I loved and I didn't choose to sit out however there are plenty of seating spaces. Good sized car park and I noted off the table top publicity that there are some featured events coming up which I am planning on going to. FYI it's a Greene King pub and I was pleasantly surprised... defo going back!
The Star is a lovely place to stop for a meal and some drinks. The wait staff are really friendly and helpful. The place wasn't busy and had a nice atmosphere. The food came out hot and cooked perfectly! I would definitely recommend The Star for lunch, dinner or just a drink if passing by. Will definitely be returning again.
We eat here every Wednesday night. Normally the food is ok but it always has a bad night now and then I imagine a different chef on shift who is poor The combination this week of a new menu and greedy management seems to have overwhelmed the chefs and the serving staff. It started badly with the incredibly sarcastic elderly lady behind the bar, she has her act down to a tee and seems quite proud how she insults people disguised as politeness. After ordering, and waiting, and waiting, and witnessing people complaining and returning cold and substandard food, we finally got ours after 1hour and 20 mins. Unfortunately my partners food was cremated, but chef had been smart and put the less burnt side upwards! Crafty! My partner sent this back and the same plate returned with hot scraped chicken but alas freezing cold everything else. During this cold dish return I myself started to rearrange my badly presented plate of food and tuck in. After moving my eggs I discovered a lovely plump and hopefully dead adult fly. Obviously this was he last straw, and after trying to get a response from the lazy and morose bar staff we finally got the assistant manager to attend and offer to waive the ‘food’ bill. We are disappointed, we eat here every week, to be served ‘food’ like this, be treated like this by the staff who, bar a cpl are there to take a wage and nothing else, is bad in my eyes.
A wonderful experience. We popped in on our way home from the airport. The hospitality team welcomed us like old friends even though it was our first time. The food was glorious. Brilliant experience, highly recommended.
Authentic old British pub with friendly staff and warm atmosphere. Food was tasty, with good presentation.
I love The Star, I have been a couple of times and will definitely return, they have a small choice menu for the over 60's...2 coarses £6.99 .....3 coarses £7.99, hot or cold drinks are extra .... great for lunch. The staff are all so lovely, friendly and very helpful which makes a lovely atmosphere. The food is no frills suits me always hot and tasted great, with my sweet tooth my favourite is the desserts, great size and delicious.
Visited today with my husband and 2 children for an early dinner. You could see the pub was very busy as you would expect on a Sunday but that didn’t stop the staff being extremely attentive. Food arrived quickly and can honestly say this is the best roast I have had in years aside from a home cooked!. The portion sizes were perfect, we actually ordered extra roast potatoes as we find normally you only get a couple but both myself and my husband had 6 each! Child portions were also such a good size. Will definitely be visiting again!!
A large group of friends went for lunch on Sunday. Food was of good quality. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and very low ceilings. It is a Green King pub
Very disappointed with our meal..... not very much choice, everything we asked for they didn't have. Had the chicken strips but only 2 choices of sauce but about 5 on the menu. The lasagne was so small & thin plus burnt one end. The steak was virtually raw. Dessert .....asked for mini strawberry cheesecake with coffee......sorry cheesecake is still frozen but you can have a full size banana waffle... .banana was hard & waffle was like a rock.
Always a good experience in this vibrant, welcoming village pub. Great menu, great food, friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit.
