4 stars, because we waiting for a starters, onion soup 40 min and another 40 min for main dish. This is to long, place wasn’t busy at all. Onion soup taste but to much cheese. Steak what we ordered “blue” was perfect. Please nice and clean, friendly staff.
Nice place with a great atmosphere. After a long drive and getting to Fort william late this place looked like just what we needed. The staff were happy to accommodate us at though it was late. Food arrived in good time and was absolutely perfect. Staff were very friendly and helpful even though I'm sure we kept them late. Really appreciate the fantastic service. If I'm ever in the area again I will be making a stop specifically for this place. Thanks again
Lovely meal on Saturday night and tried a few of the new items on the menu, scallops and Suzie sticky chicken. Both beautiful. My husband had a huge steak cooked to perfection. Great service as always.
We had steak, chicken with haggis. Both our meals were good but the steak was little done for me. Love the biscoff & chocolate tart!
Edit including a reply at the bottom: I am taking a star off due to the time we spent waiting and mind you, we were the first one to order.. shortly after 5pm. We waited approx. 45-50mins… we ordered a whole rack of lamb and we thought we could share, however, the side dishes only were per one person, so it’s not cheaper to get the whole rack if you wanna share, order two instead. They did not provide any steak knives and it was a pain to cut through it. Also, probably make a reservation as the restaurant gets booked a lot - from what I noticed, overall the meat was good… probably one of the good places here but I was not really impressed. —————— Reply to the owner: Obviously you can’t take criticism well when your sorry is not that sorry with your “obviously”. Well, they told us we stay there till 7pm and we basically got the food an hour later 30 mins to 7pm and yes, we shoulda been informed. I’ve been to lots of places with fresh meat, restaurants on a different level and we never waited this long. If we were informed maybe we woulda chosen something else but since your restaurant is all about steaks, you should write it on the menu -> takes long to get room temperature, so people would know. And yeah, one person might think that when you order the full rack for twice the price £-2 diff, it’s for two -> it can be confusing, but the chips were nice. Thanks to your attitude I will keep the stars, normally I’d reconsider.
We ate here on 9th November, we had a delicious meal as always, my steak was cooked to perfection, and my husband had a delicious burger with all the toppings. I have serious food allergies and this was taken seriously, I would highly recommend eating here, everything was perfect, thank you very much, we will definately be booking again next time we are in Fort William Dietary restrictions: I have severe allergies, these are taken seriously
Overall enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was good. I had the ribeye which was a little small for my liking at 8oz and priced at £24, also a little fattier than I like but it was nice. I also was a little disappointed as I picked the T bone first but they are not available anymore and they keep meaning to update the menu. The wine was very nice and it was very reasonably priced, think it was the house white wine at about £17
We went here based on a recommendation, however our expectations were not fully met. Reservation/service: We were told that the place is usually fully booked so we weren’t expecting to get a table through telephone reservation at the same day. But we did - so lucky us. As I saw from other reviews - a call is a must for a reservation. For me that’s rather strange as a restaurant in a tourist town should at least offer some tables but so be it. Of course, I can’t glimpse in the overall organization. There might be a good reason to it. Anyway, the possibilities to Reservate through telephone was a good impression but unfortunately, it wasn’t followed by many more positive aspects. As we waited for our drinks some tourists were turned away because everything seemed to be reserved. This is interesting because two very large benches were full of paperwork, a printer and the other table with cutlery and plates. Rather unprofessional I would say during the main season August and on weekend Saturday. But as I said in the beginning, I don’t know anything about their table management and we we‘re happy that we got in. Food: We had considered ordering only appetizers 5-6 in total as we weren’t that hungry. Unfortunately, the waitress refused and said, that's not possible. She said we must order a main course. There was no explanation why that is so we were left to choose again. So, we tried to find something and ordered an appetizer haggis nachos - very tasty! and two main courses veggie burger and beef sweet-sour. The main courses were rather lacking in taste and did not convince. Burgerpattie was too soft, the salad, tomato and cucumber have not tasted much as they weren’t there at all. Meat was too well done but at least not tough. In taste rather bland. In addition rice was served, also rather bland. Interesting enough was the Pak Choi that was presented with the meat and rice. I just wonder, why? For me it could have been just something else more complimenting the taste of the meat but this is a creative choice of the cook, so be it. At least the wedges were nice. In total, over 50 pounds paid for two people. Quite a lot for a lack of good service and bland food. Of course, there are always expensive places but I really love good food. So if I get a recommendation for the food I mentally prepare to pay more. But as our expectations weren’t met, I cannot give recommendation.
Had a meal here last night 29/12/22 after recommendation from locals. Fabulous service and exceptionally good food. It's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for! I'm very fortunate to be reasonably well travelled and I had the finest steak at The Stables I've eaten in my life. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.
Absolutely lovely place for a meal and the staff, very professional , price was also very good. I strongly recommend a try for anyone passing by.Food: 5/5
