What an amazing golf course. From the layout to the beautiful rolling Hills of Scotland, brushed by the background of the ocean. Is a truly a once in a lifetime experience.
It’s a phenomenal place. Loved the whole feel and vibe of the place. It’s the world’s oldest golf course with 600+ years of history behind it. The views are breath taking. There is also a souvenir shop near the golf course from where you can buy some collectible souvenirs. I bought a set of golf balls. If you love Golf then this is a must visit place for you.
As a golfer of of 50 + years this was probably a once in a lifetime chance to visit St Andrews as I was in nearby Dundee doing some repairs for a friend and watching Rory win his first Masters!nI turned left at the main roundabout and was able to park in front of the Old course hotel.nA good start to a day that just got better and better!nA Quick Look in the pro shop at the merchandise and into the Jigger inn next door for a beer.nIt had been raining and was chilly so even though there were heaters and rugs were available I had the patio area to myself!nChoose the salmon and Ruaraidh behind the bar suggested onion rings as I don’t eat salad, nice touch!nThe sun came out and I moved to table 35 which is right beside the roadhole fairway, not for the faint hearted as a sliced drive could end up at your table!nAfter absorbing the atmosphere and watching some very good drives landing within yards of my table I bought some golf clothing from the shop and leaving my trusty van parked up under the flagpoles I took my clubs to the driving range behind the hotel.nThis involved walking back towards the seventeenth tee past the iconic red flag to warn those on the tee that the fairway was not yet clear!nThe driving range was the classiest I’ve used, Callaway balls no less.nChatting to the friendly staff they informed me that as a municipal course after wages and outgoings, all profits are spent on the course, it shows!nAfter the range I returned the clubs to the van and took my putter and some balls across the 17th and 2nd fairways to the putting green outside the new course clubhouse.nThe locals and visitors have right of way so no issues with irate golfers, just normal courtesy rules apply!nAs I couldn’t bring myself to spend £340 for a round on the old course I was more than happy with my practice.nAfter leaving the putter back in the van I walked up to the famous roadhole green and stood on the famous road watching the golfers putt out yards away.nInto the famous Dun Vegan inn for a pint and a look at the photographs and stopped outside to look at the corner of the street were after a few drinks in the evening I believe Ernie Ells hit a wedge over the buildings onto the eighteenth green, very impressive.nAs I had booked a table in Rusacks for 6 pm I only had ten minutes to visit the golf museum behind the RandA clubhouse where I bought a print of famous view of the 18 th green and buildings behind!nGot the best table in the 18th restaurant, I was on a roll!nThe steak and steak butter was excellent but a wider selection of vegetables would help.nBack down the 17th to the van as the shadows lengthened on the bumps and hollows and a final soft drink in the Swilken Loft and in my opinion the best view of St Andrews!nA magical day, thanks St Andrews and your very friendly staff!
This is a beautiful store. It has all the merchandise from the old course. There are many selection of shirts for men and women, hats, and all kind of labeled the apparel. It is a little pricey but it has what you need. I recommend it.
Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy playing a practice round ahead of the 150th Open Championship, at the Prestigious Old Course, St Andrew's. Stunning & Memorable. A brilliant event.
