Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. The place is lovely, very Instagrammable. Food was good and drinks were great. When booking online it said the £5 deposit would be taken off the bill, which it wasn't but didn't notice until we had paid and left. Would go back to try the sharing platter, it looked amazing. Chilli burger was really good, nice juicy pink burger and the chilli wasn't to hot.
highly disappointed with the food. The "sharing" portion of loaded fries was the smallest portion of chips I've ever had in a restaurant. It was hardly enough for 1 let alone 2 it was a complete let down. The pizzas were tasteless and more like a shop bought frozen oven pizza. The prices do not reflect the quality of the food provided. All in all was very disappointing.
Really disappointed with the service I have received. Over 2 weeks ago I got in touch to book a table for my boyfriends birthday, firstly I sent an email but then decided I should just phone and book it that way. I called up and spoke with a member of staff who booked a table for me, I was really looking forward to being able to surprise my partner. A couple of days later I got an email response from my original query asking if they could help book the table, I responded letting them know I had phoned up to book the table and asked if they could confirm this. Unfortunately, I got a reply to say there was no table booking under my name on the system. At this point there was only 3 days until I needed the booking and with it being a Saturday night in December for 10 people, I knew there was no chance of me finding space anywhere else. In the lead up to when the booking was meant to be, I tried to get in touch with the bar but have still not had a response, I emailed twice and phoned on numerous occasions. I had to change the plans completely and just invite people over to my house as everywhere was full. It was really disappointing to not have received a response or an apology after telling me the table was not booked. I keep imagining I hadn’t thought to confirm, we would have turned up and had no space to sit in! As someone who has previously worked in a bar during December, I understand how busy it can get and that mistakes such as double booking/not officially booking a table can happen but I find it hard to understand how it has been deemed acceptable to just ignore me and not even acknowledge the mistake that has been made. This was going to be my first visit to Back to Square One but I probably won’t bother now, which is a shame.
The menu was very limited and had no gluten free products on it. The venue was cold and the waiters were new so when you asked questions they could not answer, but did go and find out about food. We were cold all afternoon so we weren't pleased. Also where we were sitting had a step up to it but it didn't have a black or striped band to say there was a step and it all looked like it was on the flat and one of the older ladies with us fell off it and banged her left hip and head on the next table. Would return but the menu would need to be better and the place would need to be warmer.
We were a table of 7 on Thursday 22nd December at 6pm. We were told that we could not get the festive menu as we did not book it two weeks in advance. We were never sent a food ordering form or told of this rule. We had to opt for the pre-theatre menu and were told of all the items no longer available on that menu. We ordered some starters and mains but those opting for a dessert were never asked if they wanted one. We had to continually get the waiters attention as he never came and checked on us. When it came to paying the bill we had a blue light card but we were told that only one of us could use it. I know from speaking to friends that other groups have had money taken off the whole bill. Another one of us had a blue light card so we had to accept three separate bills after the waiter wrote down everything that the blue light holders had ordered. Had they been more attentive we would have had desserts and more cocktails but with only two members of staff, one behind the bar, it was just too slow and it was not busy.
Was overall disappointed with the food and service we received. We first thought it was a lovely place for drinks, but then we ordered a bruschetta for a starter, a burger, the haggis starter and balmoral chicken. The food then came out all at once, all very cold. I didn’t receive the haggis starter I asked for despite the waiter putting down two cutlery pockets for myself, I got a hunters chicken instead of balmoral chicken. All of the chips were very very salty and the burger was cold. We then asked for the bill and not one of the staff even looked for us after placing down the bill for half an hour til another waiter asked if we even got the bill. We then asked if we could speak to the manger. She came over and out right said some of the staff weren’t trained properly and our experience would just depend on what member of staff we got. Overall she didn't listen to what we were trying to tell her, would just interrupt and insist on taking money off the bill.
We always attend the theatre then head to a bar afterwards. This place was by far the worst bar I have ever been to. Including my table there were only 4 tables present and it took us 30 mins just to place a drink order. The staff were rude, neglectful and evidently haven't had proper training. The food was cold twice, small in portion size and bland as a flipflop. Never coming back, a stain in Aberdeen City....
Pure disaster, the staff tried, but the managers didn’t want to know. Food was cold and bland and it’s definitely better to go to ‘under the hammer’ for drinks. Looks classy but poor inside.
So pleased to see this place open again..or so I thought..felt sorry for lovely waiter and bar man today..not their fault..but seriously..no menus, then revised menus..new chefs who cant cook the menu..no veggie food, only dish I would have eaten not in stock..nobody else in there .. menu not as advertised on line. Fine if you want fried food..nothing 'epic' about this place sadly..who is running this place?! Shambles..looks pretty, great memories of when it was The Square..
What an absolute joke of a place!!! The bar staff had no idea what they were doing and the food was cold and tasted awful. We used to come here regularly at the end of last year 2022 and it was fantastic, changed for the worst AVOID!!!!!
