For a 20 minute ride out of Manchester to the Cheshire countryside, we found a 2 hour walk and this amazing pub for food afterwards. Steeped in history, thatched roof, immaculately clean with such polite and friendly staff this is certainly a Robinsons you have to visit. It dates back to the 1500's and was even visited by Royalty which the pub proudly displays. The walk was as stroll with beautiful scenery, lakes, lambs and even a radio telescope! After the walk we had booked a table for the Smoker and a lovely lady from Chester and also a Liverpool fan, her customer service was the best I've had in a very long time, she was happy to talk, gave recommendations on food and beers, it was an amazing visit. Spotlessly clean indoors and outdoors with plenty of parking and a huge beer garden. Next time your looking for a place to visit, I highly recommend the walk followed by lunch and a drink at the Smoker. Thanks to all the staff for a warm and friendly welcoming and truly amazing food, we shall be back.
Nice feeling to the place and good food with good portion and good price. Was great to see chips were not mandatory like so many meals out. Staff friendly and obviously get along making it very pleasant.
Went for lunch the other day. I had the scampi and the other half had the cheese & onion pie which was huge. Chips were great too. Lovely and cosy with fires going in every cove. Would definitely go again
Easy to park. Great attention to detail by the staff. Beautiful interior and fabulous food. I will return. Well worth a stop even for a coffee.
December 2022. Still very attractive place with nice atmosphere. Good range of items on the menu and for Sunday there are 3 roasts to choose from. New to me is Heineken 00 on draft. Still worth a visit. Pics show Pakkora starter and roast Turkey dinner with large Yorkshire pudding. Great food, lovely staff and a nice atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful looking pub even dog friendly which is a plus unfortunately the food not as good. Ordered the cheese and onion pie which looked fantastic but was freezing in the middle the staff did make another attempt but was still cold. My daughter had fish and chips and the fish was cold but she wouldn't complain. Such a shame gorgeous looking pub but not a great chef although the staff were great.
If I could give Zero stars I would, dont bother wasting your money on half a glass of prosecco and some dry chicken, we came when it had just opened after the refurb and it was lovely! Today we had horrible service and even worse food, avoid at all costs.
What a Gem of a pub this is a True Diamond, head and shoulders above any I've ever encountered. With its amazing old English Decor still visible and thatched roof letting you take a step back in time with its Magical atmosphere and vibe. Quality food and beverages served that would rival any London restaurant with a friendly and professional service to go with it. Julie the landlady was so welcoming and really made us feel @ home. I highly recommend The Smoker to anyone who wants to find a place still filled with character and Magic
