big pub, huge car park and right next to Cuckmere Haven country park, near to Alfriston so right in the middle of the sightseeing areas. Car park can easily take several coaches with wide turning area - probably an undersold asset especially for large groups in a coach sightseeing in the area. Open fires, good selection of ales, friendly staff and superb Sunday Lunches. Good reputation for food in general. Large garden area and kiddies playroom, function room too. Friendly staff, Open Mic and live music on occasion. Pool table too. All good. Oh, and Ron Herriotts review saying I'm reviewing the wrong pub ? Do you think I dont know the difference between this pub and the one you mention? Trust me, I got an "O" level in woodwork at school. Plus I can read.
Good roast - beef, small Yorkshire, 3 vegetables cooked perfectly, nice roasts and gravy, particularly good stuffing. We will return.
Came here for a weekday lunch and the staff were lovely and we were well looked after especially with COVID restrictions. However the pub is quite tired in decor which does affect the meal experience. Meal was simple pub food. Large car park available.
This is an amazing building with a lot of potential. What the girls are doing here with their limited resources is great but 4 very quick and free changes would make it infinitely better. 1 All of the throws and table cloths make the place look like it's halfway through being decorated. It makes the place look very dated and unfinished. Clear tables that can be wiped down easy is what restaurants need and it looks smart and clean. The throws on the chairs look like they aren't to be sat on. 2 Notify all eating customers of the specials or daily deals board before taking their order so they don't become aware of them after they have ordered from the menu. 3 Play some ambient music in the back ground to create a nice atmosphere. 4 Serve all hot food on a warm plate!! This is catering 101. This pub could be great again but it's a vicious circle needing the customers to come to get the money to make improvements but you need money to improve it to get the customers. Good luck and we will back soon so see how things are going.
This is one great pub and I just can't fault anything. I have just left the seven sisters after have a meal there and I just don't get it. The reviews don't match the pub. This is an old pub full of history its not your bar with loud music or your sport bar with the 60" TV on the wall. It is a nice pub where you can just sit and talk. Pick a corner for a quiet time to be with your partner or friends. FOOD. I just can't fault anything and I love good food. Did notice on there revues that some of them were meant for the cuckmere inn and not the seven sisters. Drop in for a quiet and slow time with a Friend.
Went here with my boyfriend and mum around 1 on a weekday so it was quiet as expected. They had a lovely open fire place and the food was amazing! The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the tables were sticky and there was some food on the floors, not drastically dirty but still. I’d assume they’d be able to keep it clean as there was only 3 other people in there besides us.
First we was waited for waiters to see us, later to take an order of, we need to wait more than 20 min for burger, witch ones was cold buns and with a mould. But what I like the most staff defenely disagree with us.
Went for a breakfast with the family one Sunday. Coffee was like hot water with a hint of coffee. The breakfast itself was disgusting. Really cheap products. Greasy egg and mushrooms. Toast had marg on it. WTF. Left most of the food on the plate. Staff were unfriendly and didn't interact or care why we didn't eat. Couldn't be bothered to ask how was our meal. Felt sorry for the place so paid and left. Won't be going back any time soon.
A large pub that has great potential with the new owners making the most of it. However, the reason for 3 stars is it was really cold on the 3 visits I did last winter. The fact that the pub is a vast space must be hard to heat.... and the heating seemed to be on but didn't help. Will have to wait and see if the new owners can address this issue, I wish them the best as I like this pub.
Visited on Saturday with My family. The Back Garden and children’s room was great for my niece lots of space and toys. We all ordered food some from the Speciels board and the menu, Great Choices for me being a Vegetarian. Staff are really friendly and nothing was to much trouble even though there was a lot of us. Will definitely be back to enjoy the Garden again!
