When I first came here I thought this place was great at first as I got to speak mind to a volunteer about my troubles until they blacklisted for some apparent reason! I don't know why they blacklisted me. as I didn't do anything wrong. I tried going back to see if they would allow me to speak to a volunteer, but unfortunately they rejected for the third time! Instead of giving me a straight answer to why they blacklisted me, they just gave me a stupid piece of paper with a written number to call the head office to sort this issue out ! I've called and sent emails to the head office and received a call from them and explaining the issue. They said they'll look into it and I haven't had any update what so ever. They are nothing but a joke and don't give damn about you! All I wanted to do is talk someone as I struggle daily with my mental health! I highly don't recommend using there services!! An Absolute Utter Joke They Are!!!!
Bently an utter POS. A large chunk of donation money goes to her inflated wage packet and other managment . Only people of low IQ will run marathons for them. They bared my number I'm mentally struggling , the AI derived tactic did not offer a valid explanation . I swore at no one or did not say anything obscene . The stupid message just said dial a non existent number to get an explanation . I spoke to a lot of volunteers who were not helpful so I hung up quickly but their AI determines this as inapprorpirte or something . Las women I spoke to was one in a million who allowed me to express myself and said my call was worthwhile . If you have untreated ADHD Bi Polar or any on going but unhelped issue avoid these people unless you have a low IQ. They do judge the majority I spoke to were small minded and judgmental . I did not ring excessive every other day actually and never for that long . IThey lie they say you are entitled to hang up and try again but that is another lie just like the one about listening and non judgment or being there for people . Even people who work in the underworld are volunteers so just because they fill their lines with people working in their free time does not mean these people are there for the right reasons or are good people in far too many cases thehy are not , Of course there are applaudable exceptions but they seem to have started before the Bently era and before this organisation brought trackers and other illegal aspects for no valid reason,
I have had Called to the Samaritans tonight Morning at 6;40 after waiting for longer than hour there's a guy who names is Alec Very Bad Guy Please i don't need to give details Just to say Samaritans please Close your doors u are not helping People in needing Samaritans doesn't help when we need Support. Samaritans is Just a Corruption Place who's taking Money Just for they interest
I have been advised to call the Samaritans throughout my life 100 times if I'm not feeling well. However I've never done so *once* in decades as I've not wanted to burden the Samaritans. I tried to call them 6 months ago and despite hanging on half an hour three times they didn't pick up the call. I tried four times again throughout today and once again they didn't pick up any call no matter how long I hung on - twice I waited for an hour. These jerks have made me MORE distressed than I was. Complete and utter waste of time. This organisation is just a PR exercise to satisfy egos of smug, useless narcissists who think they are doing good but in reality making people feel MUCH WORSE.
I don't agree with other reviews, they have always listen to me and haven't tried to rush me or push their way, they are a calming voice when I call screaming and crying my lungs out, and just to talk with them about anything makes it a little bit better. These guys go through so much without getting much in return, at least they deserve some gratitude
Where to begin? Samaritans is supposed to be a charitable organisation focusing on helping individuals in times of need and distress. Empathy, patience and attentive abilities are probably three key traits/skills required to make a good volunteer, however in the experiences I have had I have always been left worse off compared with sitting or laying in bed alone crying and not speaking to anyone at all. The gaps between emails are inconsistent. I appreciate the volunteers may have to spread their time thinly but it does feel disheartening to be pouring one’s heart out only to receive a sentence or two in return. The tone of most emails is often indifferent and lazy - in short, they don’t care. And you can tell. Silent treatment often becomes the case when you don’t tell them what they want to hear. It’s frustrating and only adds to the distress. As a sufferer of anxiety and depression - as well as having a history of self-harm - to me, their approach is a dangerous one. I am only left to feel more vulnerable and uncared for afterwards, particularly if and when I get a volunteer who refuses to touch on such sensitive issues. Oh and the “support plans” different branches put in place are useless. Especially if and when they don’t stick to them then blame you for requiring the contact they are not giving you. I’m close to giving up trying with this organisation. I didn’t find sufficient help through a counsellor, Samaritans have proven to be just as indifferent and lax and careless with regards to caller safety and mental health.
They speak through you not with you and if you don't like patronising people don't bother. These are experiences a close family member has conveyed to me. From what they've told me they are like octopus's sucking up a spectrum of the callers emotions oftentimes just to say at the end of it "how do you think Samaratans can help !!! very callous ! they should not really be asking the caller that question , most act like they are doing the world a favour by volunteering to be there , I digress maybe in some cases they are a few genuine Sam's who are doing a great social service although my spouse never experienced this. Lets also wake and smell the coffee a bit volunteering is the new CV enhancer so perhaps not all are there for pure reasons. The state of mental health services in this country is a joke services like the Samaritans abscond the NHS of responsibility as a broken society we really need a phone line with trained and intellectually capable men and women who are paid for their expertise to offer emotional support not a lucky dip of almost anyone off the street.
Always willing to listen. The Samaritans are there for you at the worst of times. In a city as lonely as London can be, the work they do is absolutely invaluable.
Every Samaritan I have spoken to has been brilliant so thank you
The Samaritans are a suicide helpline. They aim to support people in emotional distress and despair by listening and providing a safe place to talk.
