The Royal Oak

Story

The Royal Oak is a thriving village pub offering great food and drinks in a warm friendly atmosphere. It has everything you could hope for – including a leafy beer garden, pool table and roaring fires in winter – plus a few surprises, such as eclectic local artwork and monthly acoustic jam sessions. The Royal Oak, in the pretty South Hams village of Malborough, is just a short drive or wonderful walk from Kingsbridge, Hope Cove and Salcombe.

Events & Live Music
Thanks to its colourful locals and long history, the ancient pub is established as a unique family pub experience. With its refreshing artwork and famed reputation in the region as a live music venue, The Oak is a natural choice for creatives in south Devon, often buzzing with artists, performers and audiences from around the country.
Acoustic jam sessions, featuring everything from folk to blues and rock are held on the second Wednesday of every month (8.30pm) & Open Mic Night every last Thursday of the month.

This hotel is a scam. They advertise as being fully refundable until 2 days before, but this is untrue. I've been trying to contact them for a week to cancel my booking and they're ignoring all communications from me and the booking platform, who has also been trying to contact them daily. Do not book if you might need the cancellation - they're looking to scam people.
Very disappointed.nBarstaff helpful but landlord seems like he is in the wrong job with zero people skills.nWould be a much nicer environment if he gave role to someone else or just stayed upstairs
7 of us stayed for the weekend in all three rooms and had a lovely time. The pub is cosy and friendly, very local to beautiful Hope Cove and Salcombe. Walking distance to a handy Asda, easy free local parking, and a good old pool table to entertain us in the evenings. Comfy beds, hot showers, great beer and wine and a fabulous Sunday roast.
Absolutely love this quirky pub, what a great place to stay. Tim was a great host.nnThe room was lovely and clean and tidy and very comfy, Tim made up the sofa bed just before we arrived to make it more comfy for two friends staying together. I loved the vintage pieces of furniture, gave the room character.nThe food was cooked to order, fresh and very tasty. We had a cooked breakfast each morning, a fish and chips one evening and were lucky to be there for the quiz night to taste the delicious curry.nnThe pub is untouched by clinical modernisation and has lots of crazy quirky collections about the pub, I found them interesting and lots of fun. There is a pool table, and out the back a small courtyard.nnThe owner and all his staff we came into contact were lovely and friendly, we felt like we belonged. When we come again we will definitely be choosing to stay at the Royal Oak. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay
Friendly eclectic pub. So nice to see a 'local' pub doing so well on a Tuesday night out of season.
