The Royal Oak

Story

The Royal Oak is a thriving village pub offering great food and drinks in a warm friendly atmosphere. It has everything you could hope for – including a leafy beer garden, pool table and roaring fires in winter – plus a few surprises, such as eclectic local artwork and monthly acoustic jam sessions. The Royal Oak, in the pretty South Hams village of Malborough, is just a short drive or wonderful walk from Kingsbridge, Hope Cove and Salcombe.

Events & Live Music
Thanks to its colourful locals and long history, the ancient pub is established as a unique family pub experience. With its refreshing artwork and famed reputation in the region as a live music venue, The Oak is a natural choice for creatives in south Devon, often buzzing with artists, performers and audiences from around the country.
Acoustic jam sessions, featuring everything from folk to blues and rock are held on the second Wednesday of every month (8.30pm) & Open Mic Night every last Thursday of the month.

On arrival the pub looked a little run down and we were not sure about going in, parking outside was for 3 cars on the narrow road and a car park was 100 meters away, when we got to our room it was clean and the bed was comfortable, but there was several issues, the light switch was broken and tapped up, the handle was broken on the bathroom window and we could not close it making it very cold in the bathroom as there was no radiator, the electric sockets didn’t work on one side of the bed, The tv worked well but was very small and on a low table so you can’t see it led in bed, furniture was all old and lots of junk in the window and in the pub , it looked like someone had dumped a van load off stuff in one corner, and the stairway was grubby, no separate eating area for breakfast which was ok but greasy, overall a cheap night but disappointed with the description

Just watched the program 4in a bed.Cannot believe this old fella who runs this bed and breakfast, has any comprehension of fair and honest opinion on anything to do with running a hotel. He clearly is a very misguided, and anyone giving the feedback he has given, could not be called Honest,so you know fella!!

A great quirky pub owned and run by a superbly eccentric gent. A welcome alternative to the clinical pub chains of today. It won't be for everyone but I like where people are comfortable in themselves.
