A lovely pub in the center of Keswick. Booked a table with friends & our doggies. Nice decent sized table, the pub was very busy with a good atmosphere. Table service was quick & treats for the doggies. Food came quickly, well presented & tasted lovely. We will go back again Service: 5/5
We returned again to eat at the Royal Oak after enjoying a meal on our last visit. We were not disappointed as the food and service were as fantastic as before. We ordered some nibbles to start, followed by a steak pie, the tomahawk pork steak and the large fish&chips. The meals were cooked perfectly and the staff were really friendly and attentive which made our meal a really enjoyable experience. We just about had space for a pudding which was also really tasty. Overall, a really lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food. We will be back again on our next visit in February.
Food was okay but pasta was bland and could’ve had more pesto and the pasta tasted overcooked and not salted. No offer of cheese or Parmesan. Service was poor. Ordered nibble, starters and mains but was all brought to the table at the same time so by the time we got to the mains they were cold and was going to order a bottle of wine but wasn’t much point as didn’t want to pay more when the service was such low quality. No one checked back on us how the meals were. We were done for ages before anyone cleared our plates and by that time we just wanted to leave and no longer wanted to have desert. No one can e to take payment and had to take the bill to the bar. Very disappointing overall
We had dinner at the Royal Oak and definitely weren't disappointed. The beef cheeks was absolutely excellent, the chicken dish good too. Great service too, nothing was too much trouble. Very dog friendly. We'll definitely be back xService: 5/5
I can't compliment enough on their service and attention to detail. We were a party of five humans and seven dogs, all a bit windswept and damp. We were ushered to a big table by the fire and orders taken. It was before food service, so we had a hot drinks order. I got huge envy at the amazing hot chocolate someone else had, and I was promptly brought a stick of toasted marshmallows! Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome.
Amazing staff, brilliant food. But awful manager towards the staff. So I stayed here on the 27th of March for 4 nights. I cannot speak more highly of one of the staff members there one in-particular called ‘Maria’ she was unbelievable. Every morning couldn’t be more accomodating, so warming, friendly and welcoming. She is beyond a hard worker. She would accomodate us above and beyond for breakfast, and anything else. I seen her cleaning the rooms also during the day. Honestly by far one of the most genuine, honest, and hard working women I have witnessed she made our stay!!! Thank you so much Maria, you are incredible one of the managers or assistant managers his name is Thomas he is brilliant too! He was very welcoming, super friendly and very accomodating also. The food was brilliant and so was the staff, apart from my last day to which I was checking out and i witnessed and heard a manager/assistant manager not Thomas shouting at Maria in the front bar. To which the front door to the hotel was closed. The way he spoke to her was disgusting. I never believe in leaving a negative review, but this was beyond disgraceful the way he spoke to Maria. He was claiming that ‘this is a billion pound business and that she isn’t taking it serious, and it isn’t a small restaurant ran like in her home town’ the comments went on. I was beyond shocked and mortified to know that a ‘manager’ believes it is acceptable to talk to a member of staff this way. Let alone a member of staff, who we genuinely couldn’t fault and was by far one of the most talented staff members in the Royal Oak. This happened on the last day of my trip, minus that the location was brilliant, food brilliant, and staff incredible Maria and Thomas especially! But this really put a damper on my trip whilst checking out, to know that staff members who went above and beyond are under appreciated. Rooms: Very clean Safety: Very safe! Food & drinks: Brilliant food & drinks
I am afraid we both had a bad food experience tonight in the restaurant. My wife was nearly sick when we got back home after eating her Caesar salad. My classic burger was not pure beef but like from a supermarket packet of lowish quality. Poor food standards experience but the service was very good. PS. Thanks for your reply below but the burger tasted very processed, however it was 'prepared' in the restaurant kitchen. The quality content of the beef could have been better.
We had an amazing lunch! The food and service were fantastic as were the staff. Super quick and very friendly service! A lovely friendly pub to Scots on hols! Can recommend delux hot choc!Service: 5/5
We stayed overnight, our room was very good. Very friendly & very helpful staff. A great location on the main square in Keswick, about 6/7 minutes walk to Derwentwater. Very busy. Good evening menu choices & good value. Lovely breakfast. Convenient paid overnight parking 3/4 minutes walk away. Walkability: Great choice of walks being so close to Derwentwater.
Royal Oak Hotel staff are outstanding we were made very welcome with our 10mth old puppy Bramble who was given a doggy welcome pack on arrival. The bar and food service was brilliant and the food was excellent and delicious. We've already booked to go back. Rooms: Clean and comfortable, en-suite was spotlessly clean. Nearby activities: Lots just to many to mention. The Lake and boats ,crazy golf, cinema if wet Market on Thursday in town centre. Walkability: Lots of flat walking around the town centre or Lake Derwentwater plus mountain walks if your up to it. Food & drinks: Many, many places for food and drink to cater for everyone but The Royal Oak Hotel was excellent!!
