Always go here when I come to Swindon to visit my family and it never disappoints. Lovely to take the dogs here and the set ice is outstanding. Today I had the vegan burger and actually sent it back at first because it looked so convincingly like fried chicken! It was absolutely delicious and the skinny fries are super tasty. Always looking forward to returning.
This is certainly one of the better pubs in Cricklade. They have a great range of drinks, friendly atmosphere and a decent food menu. I frequent The Red Lion quite a bit, though usually for a drink. Bucked the trend tonight and had food. Went for the pizza menu, where the pizzas are named after aircraft which is a great idea. Pizza itself was great, though a lot of rocket over the top which I personally like. There are a fair amount of vegetarian pizzas on the menu. Dessert was also great, bread and butter pudding is highly recommended! Great pub, lovely staff. Nearby activities: Plenty of walks around this area, plus easy to get to other Cotswold villages. Fairford is about 10 minutes drive away, if the air show is on. Walkability: Loads of walks around the area. Food & drinks: Great food and great range of drinks.
Such a shame when you see such a great pub dramatically change. The range of beer is still as good as ever but that’s where simulators stop. The service is poor and not attentive or as knowledgable as or was, the food is okay rather than spectacular and the Sunday lunches just aren’t what they were. It’s still a lovely pub to visit and the vibe is good but the change in staff has affected the quality drastically
Sadly, this pub seems to have declined in the past couple of years. We’ve had some lovely meals in the past, but this time we were distinctly underwhelmed. It’s a shame, the building has a great deal of character, but currently seems to be a little down at heel. Please do your best to lift it back up to its rightful place.
Just happened on this pub whilst in the area with our dog. A very friendly and charming pub. The food was very good and the range of beers, ciders and Gins was impressive. Highly recommended and will return when in the area again.
A friendly, welcoming pub with good range of drinks and food. We really like the choice of pizza, but the rest of the menu rewards exploring. Nice people behind and in front ofvthe bar.
Went there for Sunday lunch last weekend. So disappointed. Food was terrible, beef so dry and literally inedible, it was like rubber gum. My 14 months old came out brown, like it was lying there for ages before the served it. Above all, they just knocked off some soft drinks from the bill. Such a horrible experience, when you pay over 60£ and go out hungry, but even worse when your baby goes hungry. Went home and made him something. What a terrible place…which is a shame, because the pub itself looked very lovely.
Went for Sunday lunch yesterday and the roasts were terrible, the meat was severely over cooked/charred, and veg was watery. replacement meat was provide, not as burnt but was chewy and inedible. A couple of soft drinks had been removed from bill but for 3 portions of roasts at £20 I thought more could have been offered. This place seems to have gone down hill unfortunately.
Perfectly located on the edge of the Cotswolds they offer very reasonable accommodation with excellent food. We had one of the best full english breakfasts I've had, and the restaurant offered up very tasty food that was great value for money. Hats off for the cod, chorizo and beans which was exceptionalRooms: 5/5
Booked a lunch at the red lion as we hadn't been there for a while. The environment is always lovely with the fires burning and a cosy bar to sit in. Service was a little slow watching the young men messing around behind the bar rather than sorting out tables and taking orders. Additionally the waitresses cleared our table of my wife's ceockery eventhough I was still eating which is a big no no. We ordered their fried chicken burger and chips and the Hercules pizza with an extra side of chips. The chips were a good portion however the oil 1000% needed changing as they were oily and you could taste it. The coleslaw with the burger was a pathetic amount barely a table spoon in a teenytiny pot. The chicken was delicious, revise the menu just to offer 2 of these with some chips and a salad. YUM! The pizza was very tasty but not £17+ tasty. I know there is a cost of living crisis, labour and energy etc, but to me both the burger and the pizza are at least £2-3 more than they need to be.
