While visiting the area we wanted somewhere for dinner that was dog friendly. Went online to look at available premises. Decided to try the Red Lion. Rang to confirm we could take the dog. Lady on the phone was very nice and friendly, so booked. Upon arrival 5.30 pm table was set ready for us, in the bar area. Pub was very nice, atmospheric, liked it. Ordered our meal & drinks. Food was very nice, young girl serving was charming. Prices very good. All in a lovely experience.
Stopped for lunch today. The food was very good. Solid pub fare, but cooked and presented nicely. Good quality. Food also arrived quickly. Barmaid appeared rushed off her feet a bit, yet always found the time to be pleasant and polite. Your staff are obviously a credit to you. Look after them, because they are looking after the business.
Food was good, especially the 2 for £17 after 5pm. Service as a bit hit and miss. All very friendly but then then somethings missed on our order. It was easily solved though I would return.Rooms: 5/5
We found the food to be of a very low standard for the price we paid. My homemade steak pie was inedible due to the pastry having the consistency of a house brick. Complained to waitress and was offered another one but declined as presumably would all be made with same pastry. Was not offered any other sort of recompense. Would not recommend
Went to the red lion today. We were in bakewell as a coach trip. Getting hungry we decide on the lion as the reviews were good. To say straight off, the staff were lovely, the atmosphere and the pub itself was great, a really nice and comfy pud to sit in. Now for my gripe. I ordered the fish and chips, my usual when eating out. The chips were fine, really nice mushy peas and tartare sauce. Unfortunately the fish batter was so greasy. The white fish was nice, but the batter was not so good.
Sat for about 50 minutes waiting for my meal. I ordered a medium sirloin steak! People before us, being served, and watching them eat. Nobody came to us.... totally perplexed. Both left bill paid, no food. Just basic etiquette totally overlooked. Food is probably good, but....staff need to get on board. Totally ruined our evening.. Update.... Looking at the recent reviews, and the attitude in which you reply to the feedback. New management would be a good start.
Really nice pub food with a good selection our family all like different things and we were all pleased with our choices, Selection of board games. Dog friendly. Nice outdoor seating. Staff could have been more welcoming. Food & drinks: Lovely vegan burger, burger, chicken schnitzel, chicken tikka masala and sausages and mash
Our day trip from Worcester brought us to Bakewell, a lovely setting and our meal at the Red Lion was excellent. Best scampi we've eaten in a long while. Well done. Its a thumbs up from us
We were tourists in Bakewell for about a 5 day stay. We visited the Red Lion for dinner twice and lunch once. The Food was wonderful and they had good ales and ciders on tap! Highly recommend this historic pub in Bakewell! Food & drinks: Wonderful food and drink options highly reccomend the beef burger platter and the bangers and mash with peas!
Lovely family and dog friendly pub. We had some amazing food, the atmosphere was brilliant and Rachel and the team couldn't have been more on board! It makes a real difference when the staff are friendly, happy and engaging. Certainly the best place to eat in Bakewell. We had a great evening, thank you!
