The staff were amazing. So lovely and kind. At the end of the meal they even asked if we needed to order a taxi. Food was delicious. I don't eat meat but the veggie mushroom grill was delicious and very filling. My partner said his steak was incredible. Definitely would recommend.Food: 5/5
The food is wonderful, the rooms are spacious, clean, and stylized nicely. This has the charm of an England cottage with modern decor. All the staff were kind and helpful. We truly loved our stay here! Also, you have to try their sticky toffee pudding!
I don't usually write reviews but credit where it's due... I haven't stayed here before but it was great. Alex gave one of the most professional, concise and helpful intros, guided us to our room, and took note that we were there for my girlfriend's birthday. They booked us a taxi for our event and gave us some complimentary champagne while we waited. Really lovely and good value. Next time I need to stay in Oxford I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again... Good steak too!
On arrival there was no parking we could see, so had to spend some time finding somewhere to park. The ambience was nice, felt very relaxed and the staff were welcoming. The main issue with the visit was our meal, we asked for our shared steak to be cooked medium and it was at best medium rare, not what you want to see when you are paying £123.50! We did raise this afterwards and were still presented with a bill with not only no discount, but a service charge on top of £17! It was a very pricey place but to pay that figure when it wasn’t cooked correctly isn’t on at all. The whole bill came to £155 for 2 of us, that’s possibly the most expensive bill I have seen anywhere I have been.
Can't fault the place. The decor inside feels reasonably classy: leather, dark walls, dark wood, nice lighting. The staff are friendly and very helpful, they make you feel welcome. The menu is limited, but it's a steak restaurant, so find any steak you like, and you'll enjoy it, because the steak here is amazing. Very tasty food cooked by people who know what they're doing. Fantastic steak, excellent chips, even the walnut salad was really good, which feels wrong to type out! Had dessert too, also very nice. It's a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for, and it seemed like a fair price... apart from if you want a sauce with your steak - £3 for a small pot of sauce seems steep. Overall, do visit The Porterhouse. Don't bring the kids. Eat the steak. Feel good about life. Kid-friendliness: Don't bring the kids. Parking: I don't think there is any - I'd find a car park nearby and walk to the restaurant, or get a taxi.
Best steak house in Oxford. Cozy and classy environment, friendly staff. We ordered a charcoal grilled dry-aged steak, 850g more than enough for two. Very juicy, love the pepper sauce
Stayed for two nights. Location was perfect as a short walk from the station. Very nice room and the bed was very comfortable. Would be great if they also done environmental wash e.g. only towels on floor to be changed, two nights don't need fresh towels. Breakfast was excellent, did not have other food. I would definitely recommend and stay again.
As an American, I grew up hearing that British cuisine was terrible. After my 2016 visit to England, this truism was confirmed to some degree. This trip has changed that supposition, and I am ever opened to being surprised—or even blown away. We came to this restaurant tonight because our first choice was packed and because it was convenient as we are staying at the boutique hotel rooms on the property. We were absolutely blown away. The dry-aged steak a ribeye style cut for two was cooked to perfection in a bespoke charcoal oven. We were in heaven. The service and beverages were great. It’s the best meal I’ve had in all of Britain even better than a certain 3-star Michelin meal—for a third of the price and easily one of the best steaks of my life. Lesson learned and reinforced: we all have our preconceived ideas and biases in life. It’s important to give things a chance and be open to being surprised. Try the Porterhouse Grill. You won’t be disappointed. It’s a carnivore’s dream.
We went here for a work lunch and found the manager very rude when we were told " you haven't been here before" because we asked how long the food would be. When the food arrived the steak was so tough you couldn't cut it with the steak knifes provided. I mentioned this to the manager and he went off to tell the chef. I went to the bar to pay and could hear them both saying we didn't know what we were talking about and laughing at us. They offered us 15% discount but we won't be going back there. How hard is to treat people correctly, I will also say it is very over priced even the lunch special was expensive.
Very cozy and welcoming pub-like steak house. Excellent beef. Limited menu beyond the steak but... its a steakhouse. Decent pricing. Solid service.Food: 4/5
