The hotel is right on the river front in Looe staff are friendly and efficient. The hotel is clean, and the public areas have plenty of tables and chairs .The restaurant has a seating area overlooking the river . Meals for our coach party were sufficient with 3 choices on the menu, the food generally was not memorable.. We paid a supplement for a river view room and wound up in a side view room with a great view of the flat rooftops and the river in the background , The room was small claustrophobic and the bathroom lacked shelves and hanging rails for towels. The window would only open a small amount to prevent seagull entrancedue to a restricting chain .there was only 1 comfortable chair for 2 people .
A really lovely, comfortable hotel in the centre of Looe, right on the harbour. Our room had an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, 2 twin beds and a large wardrobe, desk, bedside tables, and tea and coffee making facilities. There was also a lovely view of the harbour. We also went up to the crows nest and the sun deck. Both lovely. The brasserie was where we ate on Saturday evening and the food was delicious. Mum and I both had the potato shavings with Aioli. I can recommend that! For the main course, I had The Beer Battered fish and chips, with steamed vegetables. Mum had the 12 hour braised beef, with steamed vegetables. For dessert mum mum had the Brownie and I had the sorbet. Our server was really helpful and friendly, called Bradley. After dinner, we went back up to our room. The TV got a good reception, the rooms are quiet, you can't hear next door or opposite, or people walking down the corridor. We both got a good night's sleep, and breakfast was downstairs in the restaurant. A buffet or a served breakfast. We both had smashed avocado on toast. I had cafetiere coffee, and mum had orange juice. Our server in the morning was a friendly lady whose name escapes me!nAll in all The Portbyhan is a great place to stay, and I highly recommend it! Right in the centre of the town, parking isn't too difficult there are several options, I was lucky and got a space almost opposite the hotel! But do not expect that. It can and does get extremely busy.
Excellent service. I'm a wheelchair user and both myself and my partner suffer with our mobility and thought that this hotel and location was perfect!!! Best holiday I've had in years just wish it was longer!! Staff couldn't do enough for you!! They go out of their way to make sure I was OK. Many thanks to Mark and the wonderful hotel team five stars and beyond
Set right next to the harbour in Looe for beautiful views. We had the Sunday carvery, which was cooked to perfection, medium rare beef, perfect. Great friendly table service. A good experience across the board would recommend a visit. We didn't stay at the hotel so can't comment on the rooms, but I'm sure they're great.
Room was fine and quiet we were at the back on the 2nd floor. Bathroom was bijou but clean and perfectly functional. Breakfast was fine, staff all friendly and helpful. Maybe biscuits and a choice of teas in the room and natural yoghurt at breakfast would get the fifth star.
