We spent a long weekend here and absolutely loved every minute. The staff are unbelievably helpful and nice, especially Poppy, the chef  unfortunately I didn't catch his name and the cleaner. The quality of the food is outstanding. The room was beautiful and super comfortable. We will definitely be back.

We have been here on a number of occasions, visiting our daughter who lives in York. The food has always been very good and we have never had any issues. However, on this occasion we ordered at the bar and paid for our food there, having made a small amendment to one dish, which was approved when we paid. However, a few minutes later the person who took our order appeared with a card machine and said that it would be an extra £2 charge for the change we made substituting one meat for another in a sandwich. We paid up, but thought it was poor practice. Either let a customer know if there is a supplementary charge at the time of ordering or let them enjoy their evening without interruption. The food was good when it arrived, as always. We'll come again, I'm sure. I hope that this is taken as constructive criticism.

Stayed 3 nights, the room was wonderful, everything you can think of. The staff were very welcoming and friendly,  nothing too much trouble for them. The food absolutely astounding.

Really nice pub that I like to go to on occasion but today I went for my tea and was extremely disappointed with the food as it was really chewy and found it hard to swallow. I left some and told the bar staff when they came for my plate and all I got was I'll tell the chef, no offer of a replacement or partial refund. Am really upset by this as it is normally on the ball, but not today, am out of pocket also .

We were staying nearby during York races and we had been into the city to look for a restaurant to eat in as it was race weekend all eateries were fully booked. Then we were told about this pub well I'm glad we went to eat here. Arrived only to find it was fully booked the Landlady asked us to wait a few minutes so she could go around the tables and check . Wothin 10 minutes we were seated at a table I went to the bar ordered drinks sat down looked at the menu and ordered our food which arrived in approx 15 to 20 mins my wife ordered the Steak and ale pie which was rather large to say the least accompanied by a decent portion of chips mushy peas and onion gravy in a gravy boat. I ordered Venison burger sweet potato chips. Only thing I can say is what a taste sensation with both the meals we cleared our plates it was delicious. Taste like gourmet food but without the high prices very busy when we arrived but excellent none the less I recommend you try this pub for a bite to eat next time you are in and around York absolutely yummy sorry but it was
