In the area on holiday with friends and been here twice! Saturday evening and back again for steak night on a Wednesday. Impressed both nights. Great quality food, good portions, good prices. Staff are lovely. Great deals on their week evenings. Good range of drinks too. Would recommend you go here at least twice too!
Came as large groups with kids and a dog, the phoenix were so quick to get us booked in when we enquired. Then on the day really friendly and welcoming, as well as being very patient with a large group. The food was great, the table service excellent, some treats for the dog and they even took pictures for us at the end of our meal Happy customers all round!
Me and my little family loved coming in for a Sunday roast!! Which by the way is the best roast we have had in a very long time!!!! The staff were so great! Honestly the young lad was working so hard and so helpful and manager in charge was great playing with our son and made us so welcome! Thank you for a love Sunday Kid-friendliness: Kids Sunday lunch, loads of high chairs staff loved kids
Mixed feelings at the table. Scallops were great as starter. Misto Fristo not that good. Mussels were nice. Filled blaice was ok.. dont be in a rush, kitchen needs their time. Waitresses informed us in advance. So it wasn't a surpriseFood: 4/5
I often like to try new places. I did read the reviews first and thought we would give it a go.. It's on a main street but plenty of places to park in the car park up the road. Only one lady serving, and that was to do everything so not the best of welcomes, putting down to stress.. Saying all of that, the food was excellent..I don't eat meat, so what I had was so different then most boring things you normally have. Did not realise over 65s can have a three course meal for £17.95.. on Wednesday. Myself and my partner did not qualify, but my friends did.. We all really enjoyed it. Very hot, fresh and lots of choice. We will be back.. Vegetarian options: I had mushroom pie, but with a twist.. It's not a pie as you imagine..
Had a lovely lunch today, very yummy and lovely place. Nice coffee and cakes as well, and pleasant service. Thank you :Food: 5/5
Had the most delicious turkey and mushroom pie, my friend had the same. Lovely clean and warm restaurant, excellent service. Will definitely be returning when I next visit Devon.Food: 5/5

Closed at 2pm on a Sunday so motorway services it must be. I'd like to update my review in light of the rather intemperate feedback from owner. I've been doing these reviews for some time and am a Level 9 Google Local Guide with 49m views. I only say this as I don't what you to think I was being flippant or mean. It may help if you understood how the Local Guide system works at the higher levels. The timeline tracks all my movements and map searches. If it believes I have visited a location it auto pops up persistently for several days 'demanding' I submit a review and sometimes answer questions about the venue. For background, my daughter and I had just been to a wedding at Colehayes Park I think 5-star reviews across the board. Late departure but promised ourselves a Sunday roast lunch before hitting the M5 back to London. 1 Google map search brought up your restaurant and clearly says Sunday Lunch and SUNDAY OPENING UNTIL 3pm. After a bit of a detour arrived at 14:10 and never quite made it through the front door before being told you were no longer serving. 2 Quite frustrating and disappointing at the Same time, so don't blame me for not researching your website before adding your to the location map. 3 I can only assume you've very limited experience of Google Maps as a user, as all the relevant information I need is usually on the summary screen see attached. So it's me who has reason for disappointment and don't really appreciate your bellicose remarks. 4 Which leads me to the real push back. You may not be aware but Guides are not permitted to ignore the Food/Service/Atmosphere star ratings. There simply isn't a N/A box to tick. So as we never even got to a table I can't very well give you any star ratings at all.
Sadly, I was disappointed with my main course at the Phoenix, and so was my daughter. The fish was overcooked and the plate lacked colour and interest. Presentation is everything! Maybe just a bad choice. We were out for a family birthday, so I didn't want to ruin the atmosphere by commenting at the table. The deserts, however, were excellent.
