We went for DB&B and 2 rounds of golf. The weather was wet and blowing heavy so we did not see the course or views at its best. But was well maintained and a tough challenge albeit wise fairways. Dinner and breakfast service was very good - as was the food. Pro Shop check in was easy and friendly. Reception check in was quick and clear. Rooms were a good size, clean and comfortable although starting to show their age now in a few places. Overall a nice couple of days away and worth doing. Just check the winds!
I booked a last minute massage and “spa” visit for myself and my partner. The website looked professional and the grounds are lovely as you drive in. We arrived early so we could get something to eat and ordered a veggie basket to share in Spikes Bar I think it was called. The decor is very tired and in desperate need of an update, the menu stated it came with sweet potato fries and instead it came with thick cut chips which were still slightly raw in the middle and it contained 4 mozzarella dippers, 2 jalapeño bites some burnt nachos and the previously mentioned raw chips which cost £18.95, I would have preferred to get a McDonald’s over the food in there, so anyway on to the spa we went. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the spa manager was lovely. We went in to the spa which was a small swimming pool and a sauna and steam room. The jacuzzi was out of use. There was definitely a real lack of ambience and the pool area could have done with some gentle music playing as there was dead silence which was a little awkward. The sauna and steam room were lovely and worked very well as they should. I then went for my massage which was done by Kerry and I don’t want to upset anyone here but it wasn’t really a massage, she basically just rubbed oil on my back, she didn’t ask me how the pressure was or if I’d like it a bit harder she just did what she wanted, my partners massage was after mine and she said hers was basically the same. It was supposed to be £45 each for the massage plus £15 each for the use of the spa and £5 for robe hire. I went to pay at reception and the lady said she wasn’t going to charge us for the spa so I only ended up paying £90 in total. It’s almost as if she knew it wasn’t worth the money. I would not return and in future would book somewhere with better facilities and more of a reputation for their spa treatments. However I can’t stress enough how friendly the staff are and they are doing the best they can.
I came for golf only in February just after the greens had been treated. The Pro informed me of the greens situation before I traveled, that's probably why the green fees were only £25 & £35 I played twice. For a championship course like this, that is exceptional value for money. The greens aren't too bad either, a bit sandy but they ran true. In terms of the course layout, it's wonderful. I prefer links golf myself but this has everything you'd expect of a man-made resort course. Off the winter tees, with the rough flattened down and cut back, it's a bit of a toothless tiger, but I'm sure it'll be a beast come Summer time. A friendly welcome, a decent bar menu and a challenging course. Loved it.
The staff were helpful in moving us, when we requested to move, as our room was cold and there was mold? Damp around the top of the patio door. They provided us with a heater and alternative room. The room was fine, the shower head kept dropping as the fitting was worn, so you had to hold the shower head to shower. As with previous reviews the hotel is very tired, it needs updating, the carpets were discolouredand dirty in places. The spa massage I had was lovely. The location of the hotel was lovely and the views of the golf course were superb. However I don't think I would return here or recommend it. The hotel focus is the golf course and members, it's a shame as it would be a lovely hotel if it was updated.
Spa is very small only about 8 beds for people to lay on. Steam room smelt a little musty and wasn't very steamy. Sauna is very small so is jacuzzi . We had a treatment as it was bought as a overnight stay, therapists were lovely and very good at what they did. The dinner and breakfast were excellent . Dinner was of good quality. Rooms were very nicely done out and we had a nice view. Only reason I would not return is that spa area was very limited for space and we went as a party of 6 so hardly any beds to lay on around pool area to relax. There was outside spacesmall area but was too cold to sit out there. In my opinion the spa could do with some updating as large shower area takes up a lot of space too and could be utilised better .
We has the suite and it is worth it. From reception to breakfast, the staff and hotel made us feel welcome and looked after. The only tip I would add, is this hotel is off the beaten track its a golf hotel so needs to be. That means one tends to eat at the hotel. Unfortunately the food isn’t great, I had the house burger which was not one to repeat and the chicken version was dry. Get the food right and it will be a winner. Breakfast was good. Looking forward to returning.
Nice suite, would've scored 5 if hot chocolate was with the tea/coffee. In need of a bit of tlc in places. Afternoon tea lovely. Evening menu food lovely. Service a little on the straight face side, could have been friendlier. Didn't sample the pool or spa.Rooms: 4/5
service was excellent, I had a facial which was great and we enjoyed using the spa facilities. The room was comfortable. Everything felt slightly tired but for the price we paid it was spot on.Rooms: 4/5
Enjoyable weekend with old friends. Breakfast ace, bar rather pricey, golf good! Challenging course. Spa was nice, massage lovely. Jacuzzi and pool nice, sauna n steam room good! All in all a great experience.Rooms: 5/5
The spa services were nice but the restaurant completely ruined the experience. My girlfriend and I were served raw steak which had to be returned and recooked, followed by an old cheesecake desert with a mouldy raspberry. This place has a lot of potential but really needs to fix the restaurant food.
