Can get very busy. We held an event here for around 30 people. To be honest food is mediocre. Nothing special. Needs to improve a lot to be considered good pub food. Can get very busy and loud. But the setting is cosy and good for hangouts. Service is good and the staff are happy to move you to a more quiet area in the place should you ask for it. Drinks are bit pricey though.

On match day the Orange Tree resembles a Northern Line train at rush hour with a bar between the carriages. Enthusiastic young barmaids do their best to feed balding middle-aged rugby loving gents their obligatory Guinness in plastic glasses. It’s part of the pre-match and post-match ritual so has to be endured/enjoyed with that in mind. They have a barbecue in summer, serving all manner of pig based snacks for pre-match calories. Being a rugby venue the mood is jovial for the most part and you can’t say fairer than that.

I visit this pub as an 'occasional regular' because of the excellent Young's beer, but was very disappointed today when I asked for a pint (because I was so thirsty) and if it could be followed 15 minutes later by a coffee and a dessert. First, the girl behind the bar was reluctant to take the order, then said she wasn't sure she'd remember to serve me with the second part of my order, then when I made a selection for the dessert said she'd have to speak to the Kitchen first to see if they could serve it up at a specific time (like 15 minutes later is so difficult to schedule!). At which point I told her I'd have the pint and go elsewhere for something to eat. This obviously was of no concern to her as she made no attempt to retrieve the situation at all. Whilst having my pint, I noticed there was a table which appeared reserved for staff with nothing better to do that talk loudly, look at their phones and snog a favoured male member of staff when he arrived. Not only that, but they had no difficulty in getting some food on demand. To add insult to injury, the reluctant staff member then wished me a 'nice day' when I left! No wonder our pubs are closing down right across the country.

Lovely stay at The Orange Tree Richmond. Would highly recommend staying there. Little boutique hotel above a nice pub, with comfy rooms and welcoming staff. My second stay and will be back again. Especially as breakfast is included in the price.
