THE OLD SWAN ASTWOOD
"I have been involved in the pub/restaurant business all my life, with my wife Clare joining me at The Fitzwilliam Arms, Castor. We moved in 2000 & are proud of our 7 years at The Chester Arms, Chicheley, before moving to what became the award winning White Hart, Flitton in 2007. In 2018 we packed up our business, home & cocker spaniels and moved to The Old Swan. Clare's parents Ken & Ann Caves, are 3rd generation family butchers at Ingle & Caves in Marston with Clare's brother Oli taking the reigns in 2005. My parents Michael & Mary started their success in the 70's at The Magpie, Harrold, then moving to The Mill House, Sharnbrook until retirement. The Old Swan is a pub with great significance to our story - our first date in 1999......."

Very dog and people friendly. A warm welcome. Good home cooked food at excellent prices. Beer prices also so reasonable. Obvious it is a well used and loved local. Will be going back even though an hour's drive but a great place halfway to meet up with family. Mi Parking: On pub land and on street Wheelchair accessibility: Didn't see any steps
Overall just disappointing and missed the mark on everything. Was expecting big things looking at all the 5 star reviews. Maybe we were just unlucky and picked a bad day. I felt the crayfish starter portion size was rather small and mean and the homemade soup came with a generic part baked roll. Baked cod and king prawn main was cold and therefore inedible when it arrived and had to be sent back. Whole plate just got nuked in the oven or microwave and returned which was just not good enough. If you fail then cook another fresh and do it properly. Two prawns and only 4 new potatoes were meagre and the cod was underseasoned. Haddock fish and chips was only just cooked leaving the batter rather limp and pasty. Little bit longer in the fryer would have crisped it up and made it much nicer. Cajun swordfish was plastered with so much spice it overpowered the dish. Didn't chance desert after that. Unfortunately won't be returning and wouldn't recommend.
Remember to ask for the fish menuand see if Mary is on hand to advise you on the best way to enjoy. Two of our diners had skate and whilst it is not popular everywhere it was prepared beautifully and just fell apart when the cutlery touched the flesh - divine. Well worth visiting, especially if you are interested in a two or three course meal.
Lovely evening meal. Great food and drink. Superb service. Parking: Good off-road carpark Dietary restrictions: Good gluten free menu
Great little pub. Very good food with fantastic fresh fish boards and local cheese'sFood: 5/5
We visited this lovely pub on 15th May and they provided us with a delightful Sunday lunch of roast beef followed by citrus tart. I had the smaller version of the roast so useful for people with a smaller appetite and want dessert too who can find the full version a bit overwhelming. The Yorkshire puddings were the best I've had anywhere -light, fluffy and well risen. Good variety of veg and perfectly cooked beef. The citrus tart was excellent - so lemony with a light pastry base. Absolutely wonderful staff who were very welcoming and friendly providing excellent service. We'll be back.
I really like the style of this pub. The food was ok too, but I think the steak wasn't the chef's choice. Staff is friendly and attentive.
The food is really nice. They have a huge seafood menu too which is always a winner. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The service at the Old Swan is probably better then most of these top end restaurants in Central London! I went on a Friday afternoon and it was very busy but the food came out on time and the service was still flawless. Probably the best pub experience I have had!
Nice Sunday roast and lovely dessert, had the cheesecake. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Will definatly be returning. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian roast available. Parking: Parking at the back of pub and another entrance.
Great food and friendly staff. Prices very reasonable
