This place was a gem of place, we weren’t even heading here, we were on our way to Thors Cave as we were at a bit of loose end and then we found this place and I’m glad we did. The beers were lovely, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was well priced and filling. What’s not to love about this place, like I said a proper gem. We look forward to coming back at some point, and sitting by the glowing fire. Once again took a photo of the toilets as they were clean and a pleasure to go to. I also took a pics of their great cake selection and loved the decor.
A great pub with lots os outdoor space for cyclists, dog owners and families. We has a coffee with cakes and it was great. The service was great and the pub in general was very warming atmosphere. Good parking area as well. With a visit while at Thorpe/Peak District.
Fantastic choice of local beers, great locally sourced food and brilliant staff. Family friendly, dog friendly, what's not to like? We shall be back for sure
arrived 1:45pm on thursday, the place was almost empty. the free wife did not work. staff were friendly. the lunch menu was limited. the fish was rather small in fish and chips. beef burger was juicy. the red velvet cake, £3.50, was ok.
Great place. We were staying in Thorpe for a few days and had lunch and dinner at the Old Dog. Great experience on both visits. Meals were excellent, and beer really good. Walked in on spec on a Thursday lunchtime and plenty of tables, but booked for the Friday evening which was needed as busy. Very friendly, lovely atmosphere - we loved it here.
Rather suprsingly they had Flensburg pilsner on tap! Other than that this place should be avioded! I Was given a pizza with real cheese when I ordered a vegan one, because kitchen had no vegan cheese left showing complete disregard for alergy awareness or frankly, common sense. It was a struggle for them to even take the order in the first place. In fairness we did have the meal and drinks refunded. Lovely place otherwise.
Exceptionally good Sunday lunch after a local hike. Blade of beef you could eat with a teaspoon and pork belly of superb quality. Also very nice touches with cauliflower cheese and generous jug of delicious gravy included often these are pricey extras. Also an impressive range of high quality draft beers including Ayenger and Anspach & Hobday. Will definitely be back.
The best Sunday roast I've ever had! Its a cozy welcoming place to eat. Only down side is the price of things, but the meat was very well cooked and tasted amazing.
Dropped in for a lunchtime meal with friends and we should've booked ahead! Every table was reserved but we were fortunate that we could hop on one before the reservation time came around. BOOK AHEAD PEOPLE! In addition to the main menu there was a smaller Burn's Night menu and boy is that something special; the photographs are of the batter burger ans it wasn't just a battered burger! It was a lightly coated herbed batter which was everything I wanted and more. Served in a brioche bun with only brown sauce. Perhaps not to everyone's taste but it was perfect for me. The chips it came with were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, also perfectly done. On the table we also had haggis loaded fries loved, a gammon chop amazing, and a fish goujon sandwich so tasty. None of us could fault a thing, the staff were lovely to boot.
This pub is a wonderful stop if you've just visited Dovedale! It's clearly been recently renovated and to a very good standard. They serve a good selection of ales and offer food. The food was good. I would probably give it an 8 out of 10. It was just missing that extra wow but for pub grub, it was good! A decent amount of parking and some good outside seating areas.
