Went for our lunch on Sunday and had a really lovely time. The food is outstanding - tasty, fresh vegetables, and a selection of gorgeous desserts...you MUST experience the sticky toffee pudding and custard!!!. We left our plates unashamedly empty and finished with fresh coffee free refill, brought to our table & poured by a member of staff. The service here was exceptional with attention to detail & food served within a totally acceptable period of time. We felt truly looked after and enjoyed a light-hearted, highly professional and warm atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back!
we arrived 2pm on thursday, we missed buffet lunch, they only serves sandwiches and desserts. the sandwiches were only ok, the sweet potato fries and coleslaw were good. the portion sizes of sandwich were rather small. the side salads of sandwiches were small and almost non-existed. the apple and rhubarb crumbles was tasty but a bit too sweet and watering. sticky toffee pudding was ok.
Absolutely beautiful pub, fantastic surroundings and excellent food. Will definitely be planning a return visit
What a cracking place this is... Lovely old, traditional, pub in a beautiful riverside setting in the picturesque Yorkshire town of Ripponden. Quite possibly the best chips I've ever had probably best to avoid them if you are veggie and the rest of the meal was high quality, home-cooked fare. Try the bitterballen, they are great with a beer. Service is very friendly and effecient. Can't wait to go back.
A lovely little pub dating back to 1307, the time of Edward the first and Second. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere.
One of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had in England.. The atmosphere, The drinks and service are close to perfection. Under the same management for at least 30 years. The place to visit in Yorkshire. I have been a client for 25 years.
Brilliant traditional and historic pub. Nice simple pub food. Good value. Be perfect if few things not overcooked like yorkshire puddings and sticky toffee puddings. I know it's a very old listed building but some better ventilation would be good, as gets quite greasy-kitchen smelling throughout, ruining atmosphere somewhat and making your clothes smell. Tandoori tiger prawns starters are a delight. Pork pie and mushy peas was delicious. Highly recommended. Look forward to coming again. Thanks
Great food, good beer, nice wine. I would particularly recommend the midweek lunch buffet. This pub is a real gem, easily one of the best in the whole country. Just be careful because it gets really busy on the weekend.
Great food, great beer, proper traditional pub, lovely atmosphere.
Great place, good well priced menu and friendly staff and owner. Certainly well worth a visit if you are in the area. I will certainly visit it again. Beautiful setting and own carpark. Oldest pub in Yorkshire 1307. Loved it.
